Prolia iv

Hey @Michelle B and @iserbrown hope you are both doing OK! thats great Michelle, I do think the side effects are most likely more Arimidex. I too was surprised post chemo that my bone density was so bad, I had no clue! I was put onto Vit D the minute I finished chemo. I don't suffer any major probs with Prolia at all as in side effects, I have had about 7 now and my Oncologist last week decided to give me another 2 which is 6 monthly. Ive only had 1 bone density scan since at about 18 months post chemo and 2 injections later minimum. When are you having another one? mine was really good and honestly I feel fine :) x

Hi @iserbrown, thanks for taking the time to see how things are. The other ladies on here were right in saying that Prolia is an injection, not I V. My gp apologised for confusion.
I had injection about 3  weeks ago, he wanted me to load up on calcium and Vitamin D before having it.
So far, haven't really noticed any side effects.  I am definitely more achey in neck, hip and thumb joint but think  this might be attributed to the Arimidex. Feeling a bit more like Im 88 than 58!!
Hoping the Prolia has improved my bone density next time i am tested,  wad quite a shock that it was so bad this time, given that Tamoxifen was supposed to be much less damaging to bones than the AI's.

Hi!  This thread came up on my search for something else and so I thought I would put up a note to ask how are you going with it all?  Did you have the prolia iv drip?

Hi Michele,
i recommenced Arimidex with added Injection of Prolia 6 monthly.
after stopping Tamoxifen. The chemical Name is Denosumab. 
I would be thinking of a specialist medical oncologist consult rather than a GP prescribing any hormone therapy. Your Bone Density 
Scan is measured and recommendations for therapy are on it.
Id also suggest you ask your GP for a copy of your Bone Density
Report to see what the recommendation says. 
Go gently , we’re a great mob.. being together.. 

Thanks @primek. GP definitely ssid Prolia and said i will give you a drip, will only need it once a year..not sure but will be sure to ask lots of questions. I also see breadt surgeon on June 11, so will check with her too. Thanks f or y our advice and support xx

From what I can see prolia doesn't come in an Intravenous form so it is likely your gp is referring to Zolendronic acid as @Romla detailed.  From what I have read it is usually only recommended following a unexplained hip fracture to qualify for pbs. Prolia injection would be covered by the toe fracture.
And yes...although the risk of jaw issues is rare it is still a risk. Really a twice yeally injection in the GP office is no big deal and might reduce some other risks should you need an extraction.
Maybe a chat again with your GP or even oncologist/breast surgeon about risks and benefits orior goibg ahead. A few more weeks shouldn't make a difference whikst you make informed choices.

Having said that my father had some sort of treatment like this for pagets disease and had no side effect issues. I believe he had for 3 years. 

@"Michele B" if you put Prolia in the search bar on the Forum it will come up in previous discussions. I have had threads on it before but it was hit with some resistance, but I can honestly say it is and has been phenomenal! My Oncologist has always endorsed it and I trust him implicitly. He is actually a speaker participating at one of BCNA's conferences coming up :) x
