Port insertion recovery

Hi ladies. So I decided to get a port for the remaining 12 rounds of taxol treatment. Def much more painful of a procedure than expected and I was discharged with no pain meds! I'm in quite a bit of pain and had a rough nights sleep. Just wondering if anyone else went thru something similar and what you took for pain relief besides the regular panadol
  • Im also on dose dense taxol and get horrific bone pain. This round my onc is letting me skip the injection 24hrs post chemo. Hoping this helps with the pain but also hoping my white cell count gets back up there without it. Fingers crossed.
  • Post port insertion I was good for a number of hours but once the pain hit it was an endone that fixed things up!
  • I just had pandol but slept hugging a pillow,  especially if on side. It stopped it getting pinched. Which caused most of the pain.
  • The pain will pass @Pinkcloverss, then it just becomes a becomes a bit uncomfortable...  I had a love/hate relationship with my port.  I was so glad to have had it but so glad to see the back of it.
  • Sending best wishes your way @youngdogmum 💪 have had rough days too but we are getting closer and closer to the finish line 💕
  • @Pinkcloverss it’s been tough. But I’m getting there. Dose dense taxol gives me awful widespread pain. 2 more to go 🤘🏾 Hope yours goes okay :)
  • My port hurt from the minute they started the excision as they didn’t give me enough anaesthetic. I went home without any meds with the instructions “You’ll be right”.
It took about three weeks to settle. Hit the codeine, it worked wonders.
  • Hi, yes it is painful- but will get easier I  had my port for my full treatment and still have it in one year later. I have it flushed every six weeks after treatment stopped, but it such a bonus as it will save your veins, as years go by you will require lots of blood tests. Hope you treatment goes well, just mention it to the oncology nurses as they can give you some numbing cream, which may help when they access it.
  • Oh I have a good stash of prescription pain meds @youngdogmum😂 thank goodness but I just wasnt sure why theyd discharge me with no pain relief and whether what i was experiencing is the norm. Hope treatment is going well for you @youngdogmum ?
  • @Pinkcloverss sorry to hear you’re in pain. I only needed Panadol for 2-3 days. It was a sore a for a few weeks afterwards when I went jogging because the internal stitches weren’t fully taken yet and it moved it around. Have you got anything stronger at home? Maybe half an oxycodone or some codeine will help?
    Hope it gets better soon.
