Paclitaxel
I have had 4 rounds of AC dose dense chemo and about to start 4 rounds of paclitaxel. The side effects so far have definitely not been pleasant. Oncologist has said i should have less side effects with paclitaxel? Anyone have some experience with this drug?

- angiesgMemberI did not have AC but did have 12 x Taxol weeks. I felt ok with some side effects that were manageable during the 12 weeks. The major issue with Taxol is that it can cause neuropathy. Its been 5 months since I finished Taxol and I can still feel slight neuropathy in my feet, my fingers are ok. Your oncologist will ask you regularly about how your fingers and toes are feeling. Ive also been told it can take a while to recover from the neuropathy even after you finish. Hope the next 12 weeks is as easy as possible on you.
- MarjorieMemberHi Tarnya, am to have my 7th of 12 weekly paclitaxel tomorrow. Have found this a lot easier to manage than AC. I do find though the tiredness can be worse at times plus am experiencing some bone ache...take panadol osteo or Endone if it gets too bad. Good luck with it and hopefully you will come through fine. - Tanya that is great news. Im so pleased that you are feeling well. I hope Im as lucky.
Im starting my first of 12 session next Tuesday. Im even going to give the Cooling Cap a go to see if I can stand the cold.
Please let me know how you are going through your sessions

That's good, yes it is very different to say FEC or a 3 weekly Chemo, thank goodness! Generally you'll feel fine day of infusion, tomorrow should be a really good day. Its Day 3 it hits and you may just feel a little bit off. Hugs
Melinda - Tarnya74MemberSo day one after paclitaxel is good. Feeling well and didn't even need a nap. Still waiting to see what the next few days bring.
- Hello Tarnya.
I would love to hear how you respond to the Paclitaxel compared to what you are on now.
Good luck with the change of drugs
Adrienne :) - primekMemberI had nexium daily and also sometimes soluble zantac (script needed). ..worked a treat
- melclarityMemberOh gosh yes!!!! Agree!
Nexium is the absolute best for reflux, you may have to get it on script I think but works incredibly well, I wouldnt use anything else. I think you'll find things do ease up a little compared to the previous chemo. Just keep up all recommended meds to combat all your side effects, thats half the battle. I think you'll do really ok :) - Tarnya74MemberAt this stage, i would be happy if the reflux, gastro and headaches eased up but i will take any easing of the side effects. Thanks for the info
- melclarityMemberHey Tarnya,
I just had to check as I also had Taxol weekly for 8 rounds, its Paclitaxel same thing. I'd been through 4 rounds of FEC 3 weeks apart and was horrendous with side effects, I was very ill. My Oncologist said too I'll find it easier with Taxol and I should be able to work. Ummmm...wrong...infusion day is fine, next day you feel completely GREAT!!! then 3rd day BANG! so they tell you expect 3rd day to be very ordinary. It was different to the harder hitting Id just had, but I didnt find it easier the way they said it would be. But saying that...certainly doable!!!! You may find it much much easier.
All the best, am sure you'll be really ok. Hugs
