Nipple changes after radiation

My last radiation was 11th December. My skin has mostly healed now, apart from the darker skin on my flat tyre breast (I had skin & nipple sparing mastectomy) and under my arm.
The last couple days I’ve noticed my aereola looks a bit strange and my pectoral area is tender.
Has anyone else had this happen?
This is a few weeks ago - puffy from fluid, but no change to areola.
2nd pic is now with the changes.

  • Yes thank you. I saw my GP (& had sent a pic to my cancer care coordinator) I also had a UTI, so was put on Keflex which GP  said would treated both UTI & bacterial skin infection.
    Thank you for asking.
  • @nonkyboy yeah I thought they might be, I’ve sent a text to my cancer care coordinator, if I don’t hear back from her I might take the trip to the hospital
  • Sorry @MKitty68 yes so is mine. Those raised areas are also very painful to touch and are so much darker than even the other skin. The breast care nurses will be working tomorrow either the McGrath ones or the ones in radiology.  If you are worried can you pop in and show them?
  • It’s not just discoloured though, it’s raised like blisters or something. Hats what is concerning me
  • My last radiation was in Mid December and my areola is also discoloured and flaky like yours. It’s like a bad sunburn with all the peeling and it’s a completely different colour to my other one.  I think it’s normal as the radiation burns you.  My breast is still hot in comparison to the other one too.
  • I’ve sent a text message to my Cancer care coordinator with the pic. I’m sure I will hear from her on Tuesday.
  • 4 weeks is a long time to worry - your GP can authorise tests or your oncologist may have an earlier spot or get yourself waitlisted for one.
  • Thank you @Romla.  I’m seeing my oncologist on 25th anyway, but am concerned about it
  • @MKitty68 my nipple retracted 4 months after radiotherapy ended and I panicked as is a sign of breast cancer.I saw my GP and had a mammogram , ultrasound and needle biopsy all of which came back clear. When I later saw my oncologist he told me it was a side effect of radiation. My nipple now whilst not retracted is much smaller than the other . But that said do get it checked out by your doctor to make sure all is well.
