Night after chemo

Hi everyone Thank u so much for all your kind responses and invaluable advice. I think it is really the fear of the unknown regarding the chemo. I had a lovely nurse who explained everything to me. Felt ok during the treatment - heck - I even ate the lunch they served up to me. But when u got home I felt so nauseous. I kept drinking plenty of water but anytime any food was put in front of me I just felt so ill. I took some of the post chemo anti nausea but it still didn't seem to settle my stomach very much Plus I felt so tired but when I put myself to bed I couldn't sleep. Has anyone else had that happen to them? If anyone has any suggestions re possible food that I could stomach I would GREATLY appreciate it. Take care everyone and talk soon! Linda

  • The nausea was only really bad for a day or so (probably 3 days the first time). Then I found eating small amounts fairly often helped. I always felt good with no nausea at all after about a week, so had 2 good weeks each cycle. Am now on Docetaxel and do not feel any nausea at all, but have had lots of aches and pain and an infection. Hope you feel better soon. Take the medication, drink a lot and suck on ice, eat ice cream or ice blocks, whatever you can manage. If you think of something you feel like then eat it. On about day 3 I had a craving for a bacon sandwich! Hope this helps, you will feel better soon! xx Deanne
  • Hi Deanne How long were you nauseous for? Did it stay with you for long between the treatments? I have 2 more lots of FEC to go and then I switch to another mix for the next 3. Linda. XX
  • Hi Linda,

Yes most of us have a lack of sleep but after a week it may settle I take nigh cup at night which help me to get a few more hours sleep, I also try to stay away during the day if I can.

with food department you will find your taste buds changed and the sickeness stay for about 3 days and then settle a bit, I eat with plastic knife and forks to avoid the metal feeling that increase with normal cuttlery it works, I eat what the body tell me sometimes avocado, other ham but plenty of fruit to sude the mouth I take frozen yogurt which help.

Have plenty of rest, I also drink lost of fluid, after 8 days max you will more normal but stay tired. just go with the flow at the beggining I used to fighted but now thing don't mater as much I have a4 FEC and then 12 chemo each week of something else.

Please rest a lot it does help even if you dont sleep, today you will have more enegy and is then when we do house work, and others things get used to good day and bad days and good luck hope this help a bit
