Neulasta Injection

Well I was very confident Id be able to do the injection, and popped it in without a worry!  But the day before I was only shown how to do it once, and then the following day I must have been not quite focused after reading the instructions because I stuffed up. I looked at the needle as I removed it and thought "Oh sh..!"  that spring hasnt sprung, what did I do wrong!  It seemed so simple with nurse there.  I noticed some ladies have had a nurse pop out to their home the day after each Chemo hit.  So when I rang the hospital there wasnt a nurse on duty who could answer the questions, so she had to ring my Oncologist.  he said it would be ok because it was the first time and my immune system is ok.  I see him 6 days later.  Will be interesting!  Any comments?

  • The Neulasta injections bring your white cell count back up if they get too low. Your oncologist would let you know if you need them when you have blood tests after your first chemo
  • That's great news Bel!  I am glad you are feeling better....at least you should be feeling well for Christmas Day :)

The Neulasta injections are a bit daunting, aren't they?!  I was quite lucky in that I don't have a lot of feeling in the lower part of my tummy as a result of my TRAM reconstruction that I had done in 2003, so when I had to give myself the injections in 2010, I hardly felt a thing!!

I wish you a very Merry Christmas and all the best for a healthy 2013,

    Louise x

  • Good news.  I have just come back from a mini walk with Dad after going to town to see the Oncologist.  Although I thought I stuffed up the needle, I took it into the Dr and he showed me I had recieved the medication, the spring represents the removal of the needle, thats all.  He said I got it!  Yesterday I was really tired.  But I gotta say, the first Chemo hit has gone pretty damn well for me, I expected the worst and so far, it hasnt been too ridiculous.  I felt terrible for a couple of days, ordinary for a week, but its not anything like Id read.  I wont jump up and down too fast because theres always the next time, and I know what happens when I celebrate early!  I just sleep when i get tired, and each day i feel better!  XX  finger are damn well crossed Bel
