Last chemo

Hi everyone,

Well where do I start.  Getting to the end of my chemo and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  I had a bit of trouble in cycle 2,  had a couple of falls and balance issues, so my oncologist ordered a brain scan just for a base line, so I had that on Monday and no sooner I get home I get a call to tell me I have a cerebal aneurysm 7mm in size, clearly not what I wanted to hear.  I had an aneurysm when I was 21 and it bled and I was in a comer for 2 weeks and I will never forget it all those years ago. The call I got was with lots of ergency to get to hospital, so I did that only to be told to go home, didnt get to see anyone from Neuro just was told by a student doctor who didnt even take my obs and couldnt even read the scan. My hubby was beside himself to say the least, it is a worry our public system. I will be getting a 2nd opinion for sure.  I was looking forward to rebooting my business and getting my life back on track. Chemo on Monday and then rads next month I can cope with that but struggle with a tickin time bomb in my brain. Sorry had to vent.

Cheers Jen ??

  • Dear Jen,

It’s Lisa from the Policy Team. I am very sorry to hear about what you have been through. I just wanted to jump in to reiterate that you have the right to receive good quality information about the implications of your diagnosis and, as you have said, to seek a second opinion or other care if you are not happy with the care you have received. Going back to your GP might be a good start as he or she should be able to recommend someone.

    Warm regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Jenny, that's appalling, not only for the crappy news of the aneurysm but to be mucked around and not given any proper support and assistance is simply not on. I hope you are able to see someone soon and at least get some explanation about what the implications are for you and hopefully it can be treated quickly so you can move on and concentrate on your treatment. Big hugs, Jane xx

  • Thank you so much Tracey.  I did go to my  GP the next morning after exhausting phone calls with no results, he has written a referal, not sure how long that will take though.

I did finally get back in touch with the oncologist that called with ergency, they back pedaled, so dont know what happened there but I will get to the bottom of it somehow.

    Cheers Jen ?? X

  • Hi Jenny,

sorry to hear you have more s _ _ t to deal with. Can I offer you a little encouragement? I work ICU & these days we treat aneurysms without surgery. Go in through a vein or artery in groin and bypass aneurysm by putting a stent in place. The majority of people get a really good outcome. Don't know how chemo & low platelets affects the timing of fixing your aneurysm, but it is something you need urgent advice on. Ring your Oncologist first thing in the morning and INSIST on being seen. Being sent home today is just not good enough, get your hubby to make a hullabaloo over this one. If you don't get action pronto, ask to speak to the Patient Liaison Officer to make a complaint, then watch how fast they move. Good luck, Tracey??
