Hair regrowth

hi everyone

I now only have 2 weeks of chemo left and I have 3-4mm white fuzz growing :)

sounds vain but the thought of having be hair coming back is so exciting !

Is there any tips to help it grow faster ? Did you just rock the pixie look ? I’m even considering extensions when it’s long enough ! Anyone done that ?

(I’ve always had long hair and I think it would help me feel normal )
  • Mine was quite a bit slower than @primek! It seems to vary a lot at the start, but speeds up.
  • Oh..
I opted to not include my chemo curls...hense my recut to short.
But this is what it looked like on a good day about 16 months on. I have had some blonde streaks added to my short hair reduce the stealy look.

  • It took about 2 -3 months to get to grey - it was also intensely frizzy! I had been wearing a wig and lots of people didn't know I had lost my hair, so when I dropped the wig, there were a lot of looks of the WTH - why has she got that awful perm and gone grey?? Didn't care! It was MY hair. Every time I got it cut, which I did quite frequently at first, the frizz was less apparent and the colour more apparent. So even if you had long hair and are keen to get it that length again, there is some sense in keeping it short at first as you progressively cut out what is fairly damaged first growth. Good luck!
  • I went with the pixie look. As soon as I had enough coverage...that was it. Big earing...beautiful natural makeup and bright glasses.
In fact..after growing my hair out for  12 months I've just got it chopped again.

1st photo...recut to short. 2nd photo about 3 weeks after chemo. 3 photo was about 6 months.

  • Oh mine is white too ! @Fionap2017

@Afraser that’s great about the color ! How long did it take to change from the Snow White - if you remember ?!

    Thank you
  • Mine took about 9 months to get back colour but the really good part was I finally (after the snow white lamb look!) went browner and lighter rather than as grey as I had been. I had been colouring my hair for years, had just grown it all out to natural (a good steely grey!) and was happy with it, when it all went. Now 5 years on, there is naturally plenty of grey but the overall look is quite auburn, apart from one streak which I colour. I don't think colouring hair causes cancer but chemo sure wallops your hair and scalp, so even now I am happy to minimise what I do to them. My hair is still a bit curlier than it used to be but I have changed my style, it suits my (ageing) face better. So look forward to some fun experimentation!
  • I’m at a similar stage to you, 4 chemo left to go and I have the fuzzy regrowth. I’m wondering how long it takes to get the colour back, I’ve always had dark hair and at the moment it’s white! Hope your last couple of chemos go well.
  • Oh ponytail would be so exciting @onemargie !! Sometimes it’s the small things that help us get through this! Mine was waist length as well - it’s going to years to get back by baby steps !!

2 to go is such a good feeling - still rads and surgery to get through but they seem less scary to me than chemo (at least at the moment!)

    xx
  • Hi there @Jen79x it’s definately is so exciting when you get fuzz hey! No tips to make it grow quicker unfortunately but I just rocked the pixie look and when it was long enough I had my hairdresser put a colour through it as it grew back salt and pepper grey lol!  I have progress pics if you’d like me to put them up just let me know. Mines been growing for 15 months now and I can finally put it in a small pony tail. Still need a tonne of bobby pins on the sides but a pony tail none the less.!! And I colour it as required. Mine was waist length so long way to go if I want to grow it that length again. It’s at that in between stage at the moment but I’m hanging in there with it lol. And only 2 chemos to go woohoo! Its so good when you can see the Tip of Shitsville mountain isn’t it. Margie xx
