Hair Growing Back

Hi All,
I am on my last paclitaxel chemo next week and staring to look beyond the chemo bad ass.
I am just completing 8 courses of dose dense chemo - 4 xAC, 4x Paclitaxel and am wondering how long it took for others to grow their hair back. I know this is assuming it has grown back sufficiently, as some women are unlucky with hair regrowth.
Just hoping you can share you experiences of when your hair grew back enough to actually feel like you had enough to do something with and any changes in your hair regrowth from before chemo.
Many thanks,
Jo

  • Oh yes...I too lost all lashes after chemo. Brows about 2/3 through. Mine are tatooed to. I had done before all gone. Tbe colour fades after 2 weeks.
  • Hi there,
Mine fell out during Ac but started growing as soon as that stopped. It grew through Paclitaxel. It has grown much thicker at the back. Once the taxol finished it’s started to thicken up on top but my eyebrows and lashes fell out about 2 weeks ago (4 weeks since finishing).

    Interestingly I have no grey.

Hair on my legs has grown back blond.

The eyebrows were tatooed 4 days ago.

the eyelashes were the most difficult to lose.

  • My hair was growing back on taxol but not at the front. By 7 weeks I had enough to be al la natural at work. I needed a neck trim just before as had long white hairs on my neck. Mine started as white and over 18 montjs has darkned. So far my light brown hasn't returned only my dark base colour. But it keeps changing. I've recently had blonde added and my curls cut off as it was very aging. I had regular trims throughout for even growth.

    1st pic at 7 weeks.

  • @JJ70, Pretty much a year now. Finished chemo March last year had the weekwhacker job on both boobs the day before Anzac day, The last of these photos was taken about two months ago, so about nine months from the start of the reforestation of my nut. And nooooo...no photos of the reforestation down south!!!
  • My experience has been that hair changes continue , mainly quite subtle, over a long time when it grows back. I too had the frizzy white lamb look, then the super curly grey look, then gradually straightened and recovered more colour. I ditched the wig and presented with a really bad perm look for a while, but it was still great to have my hair back. I would say it took 2 years to settle - all quite acceptable but subtle shifts in colour, texture and curl. It's still
a bit curlier than originally (five years on) but less grey so I am pretty content with that!
  • Oh Ally Jay...you made me laugh with your descriptions. Love the fluffy mango pip visual. I have bum fluff on top, but pretty much down to scalp all around ears and back of head........how long after last chemo to get your curly silver grey that needs gunk?
  • Oh @allyjay...the imagery!  Fluffy mango pip to Albert Einstein!
  • Dear @JJ70 and @AllyJay, My hair grow back is very similar to AllyJay - fuzz at four weeks and wiry, curly silver grey at 5 1/2 months. I've been to visit my husband's barber twice, and Rachael has trimmed my hair and got me onto hair 'product'! Before I had long dead straight white hair with light brown streaks. I would get my husband to trim my hair. Only went to the hairdresser once when we got married 28 years ago. I've been told my hair might stay curly, or go straight again after a year or so. Now I like the short curly hair. Best wishes to all from jennyss
  • Before this shitfest, I had long brown hair with  silver flashes at the temples, down to my bum. Did the Big Hair Chop (before the Big Tit Chop), and got shaved down to a military #1. Lost even that stubble and was bald as a billiard ball after second AC. Got a painfree Brazillian as an added bonus too. Peach fluff started to make an appearance at about four weeks of finishing AC in into the start of the Paclitaxol part of The Great Toxic Nightmare. Turned into a fluffy mango pip over about three months, then changed into Albert Einstein after about six monthe. Snow white at first and stood straight up as if I'd stuck my finger into a plug socket. Now is curly and silver grey and needs hair gunk to keep it under control.
