Hair cut

Told my hair WILL fall out day 16 - tomorrow!! So... Wednesday was day 13 after chemo 1 and  I took my wig to my hairdresser who has followed my life's journeys for 15 years. She cut my hair all off to a short hair cut, then a punk style and then all crew cut! My girlfriend brought the champagne and we had a few laughs. I was ready to have it off as it felt lifeless and was thinning onto my bathroom floor - but not obvious so much to others.

When I arrived home my two daughters, partners and kids were waiting for me - WEARING WIGS! It was so funny.

It has been interesting having an almost bald head but a shadow of my hair still. I thought I'd only want to wear the wig to feel normal. But I very quickly found a couple of scarves I feel comfortable wearing and a 'bamboo' cap.

  • Yes, I had the AC chemo, and I kept saying to the nurses how can you be so sure that it will come off in 2 to 2 1/2weeks? I had hair just below my shoulders, when it thinned I cut it to the same length as the wig. After that it was the no 3. Sure enough it was just on 2 1/2 weeks. In the big scheme of things I know it's just hair and it will grow back, but it's still upsetting and it's an obvious sign of BC (unless one has a mastectomy of course). Even the breast care nurse at Epworth Freemasons said in all the time she's being doing this job she's only had one patient who kept their hair! Oh well all we can do is keep smiling and know that we will get through this and our hair will grow back. Cheers Cheryle.:)

  • Thanks, Daina. Cheryl, did you have AC chemo? I am up to end of day 19 and still have the no 1 crew cut the hair dresser gave me. I'm sure it's about to 'wash off' as I was told 100% guarantee..... Erica

  • I lost my hair at the 2 1/2 week mark after chemo 1. Sat. Morning woke up, had shower, started to brush my hair and it was coming out in the brush. At least 3-4 brush fulls. I was going to work that day! Rang the hairdresser in a panic, got appt. asked if they could give me a no. 3 out the back. Yep no problem (had head scarf on), got that, in tears, went home wore wig first time to work. Next morning thought I'll wash my hair. My new no 3 washed off and I was left with a light fuzz, which I still got after 4 chemos and 3 taxol's.

Nawwww - you look great Erica! And so amazing that your family got involed and made a bit of fun out of what is usually a very tough time! I especially love the photo of you with the little lady. Very cute!

  • You look great Erica, you have a great family, love the pics. Did you receive the lashes in the post yet? I think sharing as much as you do helps to deal with the really crappy parts. Keep it up Louie
