GETTING STARTED
Hi Ladies,
Had my visit to the oncologist today, have to start Chemo on Wednesday 25/08/15, so overwhelmed, anxious, scared of what to expect, I know this is the next step in my journey to wellness but doesn't make it any easier, I find it so hard to make decisions, I worry that I will make the wrong one, but as my family say there is really only one wrong decision. Any hints on what I need to take with me etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Take care

Hey Robyn, you can now get beautiful mandala colouring books, and they are wonderful for stress release. The designs in them are wonderful. I used to take my sketch pad and some photos in, and this did help pass the time. Glad that you have a support person there. Sending you a cuddle, Trace ??????

Hi Robyn, I always took a book, a magazine, my diary and phone, extra water and snacks - I always wanted to graze on something. I ended up taking a bag of stuff just in case I might want to do something but in general the magazines were read and books not so much.
The infusion is cold so you do cool down. There will be blankets on offer but I usually took a nice big scarf as well. I usually ended up napping which was fine.
Good luck. the time will fly by and after the first time it won't be so scary. The nurses are amazing and they will look after you.

Hi Robyn, take a book to read you will be really well cared for when your having your treatment spoiled actually. They give you lunch biscuits and cheese bottled water great wee day out LOL and don't worry I got myself into a state with nerves blood pressure went really high so if your nervous they will give you something for anxiety. You could take your favourite blanket but again they supply all that my second treatment they added phenergan to my drip and I slept all through my treatment so you might want to go that way. How many are you having? xx

Hi Robyn
Don't be surprised if the day is a bit of an anti climax. Side effects will usually kick in a couple of days after the infusion. Yes take someone with you and take something to do because it can be quite boring. My girlfriend made morning teas for everyone in the day oncology unit each time we went. Once I was hooked up, we would wander around the ward offering everyone a treat. I'm not suggesting that you do this but definitely chat to others whilst you are there. I have made some wonderful friends whom I am still in contact with. You usually see regulars who are always there the same time as you. We laughed lots and it sounds quite ridiculous, but we quite enjoyed chemo days catching up (It was a few days later that the laughter stopped and the yuckyness started) Good luck with it all. Hi Robyn, I know how you feel as I am starting my Chemo Thursday 27th August. I have started writing down questions that I am going to ask my Oncology nurse. I am starting to get a little anxious and scared about how I am going to feel afterwards and the side effects to the chemo. I keep telling myself it is one step at a time, sometimes very tiny ones.
Good luck, sending huge cyber hugs
