First chemo postponed a week.

Well was all set to start chemo today, but saw the surgeon yesterday and this infection, inflammation, whatever it is, is still there. Still have big red patch, tenderness etc below nipple down to bottom of breast.

The weird thing us that's its nowhere near the lumpectomy area or node removal area.

The surgeon thinks its probably from the Seroma's under the arm causing it. Not sure what to think about it all. Its been there for 4 weeks, op was 5 weeks ago.

Surgeon happy that it looks better than before a week of antibiotics, but as still red she said chemo will need to wait a week.

And I guess they have helped as more comfortable putting my arm down now. I will be happy when the redness dissapears and the seromas.

Praying I stay strong for next Tuesday. Hit a real fear wall last week and freaked out about chemo. That's all settled now, I just don't want this extra wait time to find the fear creeping back.

Hope everyone is travelling well their end xx

  • Hi Kazza,

I'm sorry to hear your treatment has been delayed but it certainly makes sense. I can really relate to your freaking out...I had my first chemo on Tuesday and in preparation, had tension headaches and put my back out! Brilliant. The worst part was the chemo experience was no where near as bad as I'd imagined. Once again, it was fear of the unknown.

The oncology team have so many ways to help us through chemo so please don't let the fear overcome you (she writes...with the brilliance of hindsight!)

    Sending you healing hugs,

    Fi

  • Hi Kazza, I can understand too why they've delayed chemo for the week.  Take each day at a time and use the time to help you get over the infection and be stronger for the chemo.  You can do this. Lots of love and hugs, Karen xx

Hi Kazza, I can understand why your chemo has been postponed. I had a lingering seroma when I started my first chemo, and due to the bit of infection that was there and my drop in immunity, I ended up in hospital with acute cellulitis of my wound and neutrophil crisis. IV antibiotics and pain killers, along with isolation nursing due to my low immunity, it nearly did my head in and my confidence dropped. I was on oral antibiotics for the next month so I could manage my next chemo. From all the antibiotics I ended up with oral thrush, and have had to use nilstat oral drops for every chemo until My last one 2 weeks ago. Just listen yo your oncologist and treatment team, and take care of yourself. Big cuddles from Trace ??????
