FIRST CHEMO DONE

I started chemo this week on Thursday. I was really apprehensive. The nurse was jsut awesome with me. There was a problem with the tape on the portacaht which needed attention which the wonderful nurse I had done with such gentleness, Thankfully the blisters I had on the site under that tape is healing nicely and the replacing tape which was removed today did not cause any reaction so I made sure I got the name of it to be used only..

I met and talked with some ladies  going through treatment some of them starting radiation,  they were all so very encouraging knowing I am  on my first chemo.I am told tomorrow the side effects will hit so better be prepared for it.Have a nice weekend. By the way the user name is RoseRosse2717. It has been amended..by the moderator.

  • Hi RoseRosse2717,

That first chemo is daunting for sure.

Everyone is different, but I have found that most experience similar side effects...this also depends on what type of chemo you are having....I hope you are one that breezes through!

I hear you on the tape issue...although I don't have a portacath...I do have bruises from tape, specifically that awful stuff they put on you after a blood test!

Anyway would like to wish you all the best with your treatments...remember to breathe, don't expect to much of yourself and listen to your body.....rest rest rest!

Love and light for easy recovery and beautiful days..

  • I hope your side effects aren't too bad & you have a reasonable weekend. Have any of the nurses etc suggested a cold cap, some of the ladies here have made good comments about them. Take it easy. Paula XXX
  • I had my first chemo frifay need 4 chemo all together i told them i want the cold cap to try to keep my hair so i will have to see if i lose some or not but worth a try to see if i keep all my chemo treatments i will have cold cap

  • Don't feel guilty if your affects don't start the very next day as everyone is different.

I found 14 days after the first chemo most of my hair dropped and it was in great handfuls as mine was very thick which was kinda disconcerting but you do get used to the odd hair stuck in the keyboard throughout.

  • The best of luck as you start on this section of the road to recovery.  One down means that you are now one procedure closer to a recovered you.

  • Thanks Paulan for your comment. Sorry you had same problem with the tape. I am also told that after my 2nd chemo I will start loosing my hair I am sure it will be a traumatic experience to watch.

Not looking forward to that experience.Have a nice weekend. MIne I hope it will not be too bad and not severe side effects.

  • I'm glad you got the tape issue sorted out.  Mine tore my skin off when they removed it.  Stay strong.
