  • Hi Robyn, I was told by my oncologist to take the Dexamethosone in the morning with breakfast, so that by bedtime I could sleep. I found that this worked well & only work up during the night to pee & drink more water. During the first three nights I had to eat a little something around midnight to keep the nausea at bay. On the afternoon of day 6 I came good & did not need anymore anti nausea meds. Take care & good luck on your journey. Adrianne

  • Hi Tonya, would u believe I had the best sleep ever!Only woke up once lol.
  • I had TC Robyn and felt very similar to the what Tonya has described. I felt achey and sore, kind of like the flu, on days 3-6. very tired, slight temperature, slight nausea, sore mouth. I also got an itchy rash on some parts of my body that went away after the first few days. Perhaps a few other minor side effects I've forgotten now. After about day 5-6 though you start to feel a bit better and you can get up and do most of what you normally do. But I found I was constantly lethargic and lacking energy even on my best days on chemo (a bit like a mild hang-over).

It's not much fun. I would advise to plan to do as little as possible, accept all offers of help from friends and family, get yourself some trashy, lightweight novels to read and a pile of dvds. It's the one time on my life where I haven't felt guilty lazing around. So if there's any bright side to chemo, I guess it's that. And it does knock off those cancer cells of course. Hope it goes as smoothly as possible for you. Good luck, Janet.

  • Was started on TAC first diagnosis but because of allergic reaction was switched to FEC. I really struggled mentally on that regime, and was quite nauseous. After my recurrence I was give TC albeit with lots of antihistamines to counteract the allergy thing. Did much better on that however did get the bone aches around day 3 and the rotten mouth thing!!! I just used to rest up for those days and was pretty good after them. Good luck Paula :)
  • Glad you got through your first chemo ok.Gotta love that dex pill, you'll be bouncing off the ceiling tonight. I had TC chemo combo and by about day 3-6 I had headaches,muscle/bone pain and my mouth felt like it was lined with fur. I basically felt like roadkill and curled up under the doona for 3 days.I could only drink lemon cordial and eat lemonade iceblocks, vegie soup and crackers. My hair started falling out about day 16. I didn't have FEC so I can't compare it with TC. Everyone is different though -some women breeze through it and others, like me,struggle with the side effects. You'll probably know by day 3 how TC is going to affect you.Good luck darl with getting at least SOME sleep tonight.- Tonya xx
