Finished radiation and am singing the praise of aloe vera plant

My 25th and final radiation was six days ago. I used StrataXRT gel all through treatment and the burning is minor, according to the radiation oncologist. In the past few days, particularly in the evenings and when I first wake up, my treated area is "on fire" and stinging. I've been using ice-cold washcloths and Moogoo cream. This evening I decided to try the flesh of aloe vera plant from the garden, as recommended by someone from Be Uplifted, a local support group in Brisbane. It stopped the stinging and burning immediately. I've put a big leaf in the fridge ready for morning, or if I need it during the night.

  • @LITHGOW1950 I believe you can buy a cream. I think @arpie mentioned it. If you google it, I'm sure you'd find somewhere near you where you could get a pot of the plant. It's very hardy - needs no TLC.
  • Can you buy the aloe cream or only get it directly from the plant?

  • @Joannie yes, AI will be next. But I'm going to wait a few weeks. I need a break and I have other stuff to deal with. It's been a long 10 1/2 months.
  • Hi @arpie It's wonderful stuff. Fortunately I have two big pots of the plants. I just cut it open and soothed the flesh onto my flesh and presto! Stinging gone.

  • Congrats on finishing your radiation, @Flaneuse  - I also used Aloe Vera after finishing rads, (bottled & unscented & 100% natural - from NZ) particularly when the boob was 'hot' - but mine was not 'stinging'!  It was very soothing & cool and helped a heap, I believe.
