Day 1 of 30 Radiotherapy

Hi, I had my first radiation today and honestly I was feeling calm and ready and thought it was basically an X-ray. So I quite casually hopped on the table and felt really comfortable {I sleep with my arms above my head} anyway about 2 mins in as the unit moved its arm from the left to above my chest I felt this weird warm sensation crawl underneath my back up to my neck and I felt I was about to pass out, this happened twice. Now I have had a much worse scan that lasted nearly 30 mins and came to within 5 cm of my face and did not once feel like this. I also felt almost motion sick and like there was a magnetic feeling.........................................

So am I losing it completely or has anyone else had this feeling? I am going to take a kwells tomorrow incase it is a bit of motion sickness.

  • If you get any creams put them in the fridge the coolness is amazing. I used to place a gel freezer pack over my clothing to cool my breast down after my treatment while I was driving back to work.

  • Hi a pharmacist recommend this to spray on to cool the Frankenboob and it has been amazing so far so thought I would share.

  • Thank you so much , I have been counting in my head and fighting the urge to jump off the table, very unsual feeling when I have never experienced panic like it before. Day 4 down and boob is starting to heat up.

  • Hi , it's 4 years since my diagnosis and I remember I nearly passed out after the first treatment when I got to my car I was shaking so much It's a very emotional time and as strong as we think we are ,I think we are not . We try not to let it beat us but hey yes it's a big deal, I know a lady who used rescue remedy as well and that calmed her. I used to sing to myself not out loud, lol I wish you all the best with your treatment . Regards adean

  • Thank you both, today I took the kwells and was much better, the lady told me the bed does actually move a little and with me trying to be so still it would make the motion sickness worse plus i had another 2 smaller weird feelings but counted through them. As my husband says i can get sea sick in a bath!! I will keep taking the kwells. I still think you can feel some sort of force with the beams.

  • I too used to close my eyes during radiotherapy few times i would get so relaxed i would get annoyed when it was over. Its important that you let them know how you are feeling.

  • Lynda, that sounds horrible. I am up to my fifteenth radiotherapy session and I have not felt anything at all. I basically have a little nap while it's happening. I hope you mentioned it to the radiotherapist or nurse. Even if it is a panic attack it's nothing to be embarrassed about and they should help you with it. I doubt that it would be motion sickness because you're not moving. If it's vertigo I don't think the Kwells would help, would they? Perhaps you could go in early today and speak to someone about it before your treatment. In my experience the radiotherapy team is really kind. I hope it all goes well today.
