Cost

I just wanted to let everyone know if you don't know already that once you reach the safety net with Medicare out of pocket expenses which is approx $1200 you get the govt rebate back plus 80% of the out of pocket expense which means you get most of your costs back from Medicare. I went private for Radiation as it meant I didn't have to drive far by doing this and it has all worked out wonderfully. With surgery extras and out of pockets already I quickly hit the net and I pay very little for most of the radiation and the travel is so convenient. The safety net has been a big help

  • Hi Annie My safety net was only $1221.90 and it came about pretty quickly so at least this year whatever medical costs comeI will be out of pocket - very little!  I agree - it is a good scheme ! and I never thought i would benefit from it.warm wishes
  • Hi Moira Yes Medicare is a national scheme not state so same safety net applies to all Australians - if you visit the Medicare safety net site by googling it you will find the different amounts for individuals and pension card holders etc and which safety net will apply to her. Where I have been going they lodge my claim online and I get a printout of what I get back and it's in my bank next day
  • Hi Clover, thank you for that information, do you know if this is for all States?I have a friend just about to start Radio and was worried about how much its going to cost her by going Private. we live in SAThanks and RegardsMoira
