Complete Pathological Response

I had my mastectomy last week after 5 months and 16 rounds of chemo.  Best news ever was that the cancer had been completely killed.

Started with 9 tumors ranging from 5cm to 2cm and two lymph nodes of 3cm - Stage 3 and the chemo worked its magic.  Still have to have radiation in about 4 weeks time when the scars heal, but this is the best result one can hope for.

I know that the cancer still got my breast but I am now hopeful that it won't get the rest of me.

As chemo is the only treatment currently available for us triple negative girls it's good to know that my prognosis is looking brighter.

I hope this gives some other triple negative pink sisters some hope too.

  • Best of luck with your treatment hope it all goes well. I am off for my six month follow up after surgery. Can't believe it is 6 months on. Lots of butterflies at the moment. Keep strong. Xx
  • Hi Ronni - I know how you feel about having time to think the mastectomy by having chemo first.  Having had so much cancer and then to find out it is all gone is a relief.  It is good to know that all those months of Chemo were worth it.  Sue

  • Hi Terry,

I am feeling great - I start radiation next week and that will be the final stage in my treatment.  I am really looking forward to that being over and done with.  Then I can concentration on getting back to feeling almost normal (well as normal as you can be with one boob missing).  Sue

  • Unbelievable news! Had my mastectomy and full axillary clearance on Wednesday (12th). I have been dreading it as I had my chemo first and have had 4 months to think about my surgery and the emotional ramifications: good and bad. In the past months I have shed quite a few tears.  Funnily enough I have not cried once since surgery!

The surgeon called yesterday. I have had complete pathological response - no cancer found in breast or nodes. My original tumor was 8.7cm!

My surgeon is still recommending radiation which will probably start in a few weeks.

Thank god for these websites that keep us positive. I have three small children and will not stop fighting for them!

  • Thanks Tracey-Lee -  I am doing well and having a restful time getting ready for Radiation.  I think I have through the worst so can now handle anything.  Sue
