- SisterMemberI remember her from the old movies - she was gorgeous.
- RomlaMemberOops she was a famous actress of the 40s and 50s - you might have seen her in Auntie Mame ?
- RomlaMember@kmakm tbh you remind me strongly of a young Rosalind Russell.I distinctly remember reading years ago her changing to a short hairstyle and thinking how great she looked.
- kmakmMemberThank you @Romla!
- Jen029MemberI have had the cold cap for two lots of chemo, the cold was pretty intense for the first ten minutes or so but bearable after that. After the first my hair thinned out quite a lot but is still okay, so far haven’t had much more come out so I will keep going with it for the next two treatments. As others have said it is good to not look sick and have to answer lots of questions. It has helped a lot to come back here to see how others have coped.
- CathyMacMember@kezmusc thank you for the info on cold capping. I will give it a go! Fingers crossed I'm tough enough to hold out for those initial minutes.
Thanks everyone for your input as @Shellshocked2018_ says it's most valuable.
I just want to get it underway now so I can start counting down the sessions I have left and moving towards kicking this cancers ass to the kerb!
Big hugs❤️ - Thanks everyone for your input on this thread it has been most valuable.
Its so good talking to others that understand where your head is at.
Sending a big thank you and hugs x - kezmuscMemberHi @CathyMac and thank you for the tag @Emie .
You are not vain, everybody thinks that. It's not vanity its annonymity and normality.
You are lucky they were positive about it. Some onc's are not and dismiss it without even giving people the chance to try.
The cold cap is no where near as horrendous as what it is made out to be. Yes, it's freakin cold and the first time is a bit of a shock. Think ice cream brain freeze x 10. It only lasts a couple of minutes. You just grit your teeth and go to a happy place and then it settles and your fine.
If you are worried you may be able to take a sedative before hand. i didn't need to but some people choose to do that.
I had little problems after the first time as I knew what to expect and it got easier as I went along.
It does at a bit extra time, but that didn't bother me at all. It wasn't like I was going to go out and play a game of tennis afterwards anyway. So an extra hour or so was no big deal. Besides, comfy chair, warm blankets, music, TV food....what more could you want right?
If it's going to work, the first time is the make or break so you really need to know how to fit it properly yourself just to double check. Most nurses are good but it's not their hair. If the top doesn't fit properly it won't work well..
Give me a pm if you want any more specific info.
Was it worth it ??? Hell yes. - RomlaMemberI have to agree @ kmakm you do look stunning with super short hair.
- kmakmMember@Shellshocked2018_ @CathyMac I'm keeping mine super short too. Without exception, everyone loves it but most importantly, I do. One of my school friends (with whom I've always discussed hair!) said, "You've found your look". Only took me 52 years... K xox
