Hi all, I am having my first chemo on Friday. Three cycles of Fec (whatever that is) then three of T to the best of my understanding. Information day is on Wednesday, hopefully I'll understand more then. I had my hair cut short today. I've read some of the really interesting and informative blogs here, I'm surprised how quickly the hair falls out. I didn't even imagine it would be sore or annoying, so that's to be seen. I watched the information dvd today and it made me feel sick. I'm pretty scared of the nausea. Anyway, thanks for all the info here, it's great. Scalena.

Hey i had the same treatment. Take it one treatment at a time and be kind to yourself. They will give you meds to counteract the nausea and may not be as bad as you think. Hope all goes well and take care.

Hi Scalena, we all react differently to treatment. I am very prone to nausea, I suffer from motion sickness and I am sensitive smells so I was worried like you. However the meds I was given managed the nausea well. I only felt a little off in the tummy and ate very small meals for the first couple of days after treatment. Make sure you take the nausea meds as directed to give youself the best chance to manage this side effect. If you find the meds prescribed do not help, do tell your oncologist as they will adjust/change the medication if needed. At your meeting on Wednesday, they will advice you on what you could expect and how to manage the side effects. I found the dry mouth the worse side effect to manage but we all react differently so this may not be an issue for you. Your breast care nurse will also be a wealth of information, so don't hesitate to contact her if you need advice or have concerns. All the best for Friday, Lorraine

Hi Scalena, All the best for Friday. I remember being really nervous as well before I started AC (I've just done 2 cycles). I think it was the situation of given so much info about side effects and you really don't know how the chemo will effect you til you have it. Ask lots of questions on the info day. They will emphasise the importance of recording your nausea and ensuring you take your medications when you return home afterwards. The nurses reminded me to contact the clinic and not wait til the next cycle if the nausea is really bad. There are so many different combinations of anti-nausea medications that they can give you now. Be kind to yourself, Karen xx

Hi Scelena, i had FEC too for 6 months . It's three different chemo drugs. F is Fluorouracil also called 5FU, E is Epirubicin and C is Cyclophosphamide. They are very powerful drugs. The nausea drugs I was given worked very well and I had no problems the entire 6 months with nausea. Unfortunately, I had other things like mouth problems which were very painful, but with medication were manageable most of the time. I didn't eat a lot and had no energy. This was the worst time in my life but it's been a year since then and my hair has grown back and some energy too. Tastes buds change too - I couldn't really taste anything - all bland and tasted the same. But you do come through it and I hope your successful in your battle with the cancer. Take care xx Beppie

Hi Scalena, I've just had my 2nd cycle of FEC. I, too, dread nausea at the best of times. My experience has been a migraine (to which I must now admit I'm prone), starting 1&1/2-2 hours post completion of chemo. 2nd cycle I had my magic migraine medocation, so I actually mana aged work the next day. I haven't tended to get much nausea until day 4 or 5. I've managed it with maxalon, Eno, ginger beer or hot ginger cordial. Anything I eat is savoury. Ask all the questions you can tomorrow, & as everyone says, make note of all symptoms & side effects to discuss with you team. Above all, if something seems excessive or out of the ordinary, don't wait for the next cycle, ring someone to talk about it. All the best, Lyn
