CHEMO & TAMOXIFEN

Hello everyone,
I hope this message finds you all well. I have been on Tamoxifen for 9 months. I had 6 months and 16 rounds of chemo. I have had scans recently and everything came back clear. I just wanted to see if anyone else has joint pain in the legs and lower back since treatments/medication. I have started taking tumeric tabs which helped but still struggling. If you could give me any advise I would appreciate it.
Thank you xo
  • RNSW You know, with all our treatments its just too damn hard to work out what is actually causing all the pain! I was on Tamoxifen 4yrs but I didnt have chemo at that point, and I had no pain honestly or side effects and I was pre menopausal!! 2015 recurrence, chemo, thrown into menopause OMG, and now on Arimidex. Arimidex is renowned for joint pain, but to be honest I believe alot of my pain legs, lower back and neck comes from chemo still 1yr on. My bone density revealed I have osteoporosis in lower back and neck thanks very much!!! My Oncologist believes another gift from treatment YIPPEE!!! So I take Vit D everyday and powdered Magnesium imperative as it services over 300 enzymes in the body. Exercise is super difficult, but I have found I cannot just exercise alone...Im working with an exercise physiologist who deals in rehabilitation specifically with Cancer Patients. Amazing!!! it involves alot of stretching right now, not so much cardio, but we will build to that. Hugs Melinda xo
  • Hi RNSW, Have been on tamoxifen for a bit over 5 months. I've found that exercising is doing wonders for the joint pain but am only experiencing lower back or ovarian pain when my period would be due and used to have pretty shocking periods so that isn't worrying me too much. I also take magnesium and vitamin D. Hope you can get yours under control. Xx Cath
  • I've been on Tamoxifen for 3 months , had joint pain for a while and migraines. I've been taking omega 3 which has eased the joint pain , still getting headaches though. i Di believe turmeric is an excellent choice. One a day ! Good luck hope it settles for you soon cxx
  • I've been on Tamoxifen about 9 months. I was getting a lot of aches so I started taking bio magnesium supplement and vita D supplement. If I don't have a banana that day I will also take a potassium tablet as mine is always low. I still get stiff and last night I almost had to get up for some Panadol but thankfully it eased and I was able to sleep. I developed a blockage in the vein behind my eye recently which I think could be a side affect of the Tamoxifen. Treatment seems to be just observation which is annoying. I have put myself on half a tablet of aspirin 100mg daily in the hopes I don't develop anything else. I was taking a whole tablet but any nick I get to my skin bleeds like heck so I cut the aspro in half so technically its only 50mg. I clot better now.
  • Fish oil capsules may assist also. I have found swimming and stretching helpful  on letrozole.
  • I've been on Tamoxifen for 18 months now RNSW and have found that exercise and stretching helps with the joint pain.  Hope that helps :)
