Blood clots in superficial veins

Hi All I finished my last chemo treatment (TC) about four weeks ago. During my treatment I was placed on Clexane due to blood clots that developed in my chemo arm. I spoke to a Heamotolgist last week and he said that I have blood clots in my superficial veins due to the treatment irritating my veins so he will be taking me off Clexane as veins in the superficial veins aren't serious, and I have finished my chemo treatment. He just said that if it gets worst eg. redness, more swelling, to come back. I see him again in 6 weeks time. Has anyone had this side effect from chemo? If so how long does it take for your veins to go back to normal? Does anyone know if there is any home treatment I can do that might help? My arm is swollen and I have a couple of dark veins that feel hard down my arm from my elbow to my wrist and sometimes it feels weird. I'm also starting radiation today, feeling a bit nervous about it! Hopefully I don't get to many side effects with that. Thanks

  • Yaaaaaaay for your hair he he enjoy and keep me posted if it comes in thick or curly etc... :-) didn't take long to start coming

  • Hi Kb, It's good to hear from you. I hope you're feeling better. The side effects of chemo really suck. My last one was nearly 6 weeks ago and I'm still feeling some of the side effects from chemo. I keep wondering how long the effects will last. I still have the problem with my clots and my tongue feeling weird. On a positive note my hair is starting to grow back, looks like chicken fluff at the moment. :) Anyway I've had 2 weeks of radiation (2more weeks to go) and doing ok with it. My breast is a little bit red and tender to touch and I'm getting really tired. I was told the tiredness came at the end but for me I'm feeling it now. I don't seem to have the energy to do things. I'm ok in the morning but by the afternoon I need to sit and relax, sometimes I have a nap, which isn't like me. I spoke to the nurse last week and she asked me if I was working during treatment and I said "no". she was quite happy with that response because she said that people don't realise how tired radiation can make you feel. So I guess I'm having a normal reaction with radiation. I try to keep positive and count down the days for my treatment to finish. Once my treatment comes to an end then my physical and mental healing can begin. This whole journey so far has been so mentally and physically exhausting and challenging. I'm am so tired of it all. I know how bad the side effects of chemo can be because like you I seemed to have gotten most of them too. I really hope everything goes well for you. Let me know how you go. Take care!
  • Hi Jojoh, hope the radiation. Is going we'll keep me posted. Chemo for me has been horrendous I told them this week I don't wish to do the last one, I've had enough, waiting to talk to breast nurse and doc next week. Radiation later in September. My watery eyes are driving me nuts. I had most side effects and I. Bed up to 9 days each round. Let me know how you are going. Sorry so long between messages
  • It's great to hear that you have 1 more chemo treatment to go. I hope the side effects are kind to you. Just think that it is going to be the last time you have to deal with the side effects of chemo and then you will be on the mend. Are you having radiation? I was so nervous when I went for my first one yesterday. After I had it, I was thinking "is that it" because I didn't feel a thing. I was thinking I would feel some burning sensation. While I was waiting to go in I spoke to a lady who was having her last radiation treatment and she told me the trick is to put heaps of sorbolene cream on after each treatment, so that is what I did yesterday and will continue to do so during my treatment. I'm so sick of having to deal with side effects that I'm hoping I'll be lucky with radiation and I won't get too many. I know sunburn effect and tiredness at the end of it is common. I had a look at your Facebook page yesterday. It is such a good idea. I tried to "Like" the page but I had trouble so I'll look at it today and try to like it again. Good luck and take care :)
  • Those clots don't sound fun. May radiation be so much easier for you. I have 1chemo to go it's been a major rough ride 7 to 9 days in bed full of all side effects I am looking forward to be done. Take care
