Advice Needed- Delay Chemo?

Hi everyone. Got a difficult decision to make haven't a clue what to do. Got my 1st appointment with my oncologist on Wed. I've been told that chemo generally starts 1 week after your 1st appointment. The thing is I have my last chance to do 1 more ivf cycle. I should start my injections tomorrow to begin the process of stimulating my ovaries and my egg collection would be scheduled roughly 2 weeks time. This would delay my chemo for 1 week but also when I do start I would be putting my ovaries under additional strain as they will be over stimulated. Havent a clue what to do. Iv to phone my oncologist tomorrow even though I havent met him yet to see what he advises. They didn't retrieve any eggs on my last cycle so there's every chance the outcome could be the same. ARGGH I also need to let the ivf place know tomorrow so it looks like ill need to try and get hold of my oncologist before Wed.

  • I'm so glad you can fit in an IVF round before chemo. I had Docitaxel and felt like roadkill between day 3 to day 6.I just hid under the doona.I didn't have FEC so can't help you with that one.We all react differently so hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

  • Hey sweety that is great news for your IVF. If u see me around town waddling it is because I have everything crossed for u. Sorry to hear u have nausea with it though u poor luv. I had same chemo cycles as u r having back in 2012. With FEC I pretty much slept for 2 days. Pretty much comatosed I called it and then I felt better and bounced back in the beginning so hoping the same for you...... BUT u must remember everyone deals with the chemo differently so it is hard to say for u but probably the start of your chemo cycle u will need hubby to look after you. Good luck with your IVF huny. Thinking of u. Lots of love always, Mich xoxoxo
  • Hi Girls My oncologist has let me postpone chemo for another week. This will give me the opportunity to have another IVF cycle. I have different meds this time round so fingers crossed that I will be able to harvest some embryos. Hopefully all will go well as this new med is making me very nauseous. I begin chemo on the 14th, 3 cycles of FEC, followed by 3 cycles of Docetaxel. When is it that I'm likely to feel the affect?. My husband is going to try and work from home a few days. Just wondering when I will probably need him more. Thanks for all your kind words and support. X
  • Hi Gillian,  I haven't been online for a while so by now you will know what is the best  way to go.  I have always lived by the thought that when you decide to do something it is the correct/best thing to do at that point in time.  There is never room for regret.  From a motherly point of view my first thought was to continue on and try for your ivf retrieval.  I hope that you have received expert medical advice and used this information to make YOUR final decision.  Please let us know how you are going.  Whatever you decide is the best decision. XLeonie

  • Hey Gillian,

I agree with Bella in that I would seek advice from your Medical team.

My chemo was delayed for a short time due to me having an infection from the surgery and I do know they only like to leave it a certain time between surgery and chemo.

Personally though I am hoping you are able to have your next IVF treatment sweety.

I will keep my fingers crossed that you can.

Lots of love always, Mich xoxooxoxox
