About me

Hi all,

I was diagnosed with Triple neg BC in 2010. Had a lumpectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Just had my mammogram yesterday and all is clear. I am about to see a plastic surgeon tomorrow to talk about having the non op side reduced as I am very unhappy  with the difference. Is there anyone else who is in the same situation asmyself?.

Thankyou

  • I'm considering it, still have the last of the chemo and radiotherapy to get through first. Had been looking at a breast reduction before BC  I have large bust an I cup and get a lot of pain between the shoulders and back. Now I feel lopsided, tho hubby assures me it's not noticable.

    Wishing you all the best

  • Maybe your surgeon is using a different technique to the one mine was planning. I guess that was another thing for me. I didn't feel totally confident in the guy I saw and as a public patient I couldn't do anything about that. Hopefully your surgeon will be great. Again, I hope it all goes well. You should post about it afterwards. I would be interested to here how it goes. Best wishes, Janet.

  • Thank you :)

I saw a surgeon yesterday & she has suggested a z-plasty to try and free up the scar on my LB as it's tight after radiotherapy. She will lift & reduce the RB. But she didn't say anything about the nipple as you have mentioned eeek. She may at a later time do a fat transfer to the LB to fill in the 'dent'. It's up to a 3 month wait in the public system with 2 nights at hospital and a minimum of 2 weeks off work.

    Cheers,

  • I was considering doing this too. My left breast is a little larger than my right breast as a result of the surgery. I was tossing up for ages while I waited for my next appointment in the public system. In the end I decided against it for three reasons.

    1. The difference is only small and I don't think it's that obvious to others unless I wear tight, light coloured clothes (which I avoid).

    2. I already have a couple of small scars on my right side. I didn't really want more scaring on my left breast as well.

    3. On my initial consultation with the plastic surgeon he said there was a chance I could lose all sensation in my nipple or that my nipple could completely die as a result of the surgery. Eek!  His plan was to reduce and uplift at the same time by cutting around and repositioning the nipple after removing some tissue.

I guess in the end I didn't think it was worth it. I was scared that I might be swapping one minor problem - slight size difference - for another worse problem - scaring & loss of nipple sensation. But I suppose if the size difference had been larger I probably would have gone ahead with the operation and taken that chance.

I certainly understand your concern about it and I believe the chance of the nipple dying is pretty small so I hope I haven't put you off if that's what you want to do. Good luck. I hope you get the results you're after. Janet.

  • Great news on the all clear so congratulations.

My breast surgeon offered me work to even the size of my breasts but I refused, I do not want to have any more surgery if I can help it.

its a matter of personal choice and if you feel the need then you should do it, over the events in our lives I feel we have all learnt to do what makes us happy.

    Good luck
