Radiation commences

Using the Moo Goo every day , it is a lovely cream. I have had three doses of radiation and it seems to be going well. The worst thing is the driving in to the hospital and waiting up to 45 mins to get in there for 5 mins of zapping! Do other people have to wait so long ?  It is scary when the machine zooms in over my chest and makes those high pitched noises that probably mean I am being zapped for many seconds at a time. I think the skin is starting to turn pink in one area today...

  • Yep it sure is a roller coaster of feelings, when i had radiotherapy i had to stay 650ks away. even though pats only pay one round trip, my husband tried to spend time with me, and continue keeping our business going, and we would drive the 6 hours every friday and back on the monday, so i could see my little dogs, lol.  i was lucky with my radiotherapy, most days for the whole 6 weeks, i was in and back out before my appointments was due, It is a bit scary at first with the machine, but i then started chilling out for the few minutes it took, and felt like lying there for a while longer lol. no chance, one in one out unfortunately. Keep putting your cream on, and hopefully you wont have too much problems, how long are your having it for? Just remember we are all here for you, so please let us know how you are going with it. • Hi Lyn

Glad to hear the treatment is going okay so far. Yes the worst part is the driving - I had to drive up to 50 minutes each way - but it was quick with the treatment and hardly any waiting.  When laying on the bed having the treatment done sometimes I used to count and see it I got the same time each day, I know it sounds strange but it used to take my mind off the machine etc. I am now two weeks past the radiation treatments and still get a bit tired so just have a rest when I feel that way.  Take it easy and take care. • Thanks Moira and Michelle for your comments. I'll try the counting thing!  I am using the Moo Goo and crossing my fingers I will come out ok. I know it sounds terrible but it is kind of like being slowing cooked, isn't it...? a dreadful thought. But I am happy to do it because it seems it reduced re occurrence by a large percentage.

  • Hi Lyn,

It sounds like it is going ok so far. I absolutely hated radiation, I was such a sook about it! It was the mental energy of having to go there and wait etc but, like you, I was happy to do it at the same time as it really is effective. I kept working when having my radiation which wasn't a great idea in hindsight, so it is really good that you have taken time off and have time to rest. I am only now starting to feel like I am getting back on my feet (a couple of months on). Don't be hard on yourself, take all the time you need and get out in the fresh air when you can - it really makes a difference. Thanks for the comments on my blog, I didn't realise so many of my settings were on private - have fixed that now. Stay in touch and good luck with everything. By the way, what is Moo Goo? I used QV cream.
