The Brimbank Breast Cancer Support Group held its first meeting on Thursday 2 September.  I am the facilitator of the group.  There were 10 attendees, 6 of whom (including myself) were in remission from breast cancer.  We had a really good meeting.  Each person told her story and we compared treatments, etc.  My planning group and I decided not to have a speaker for the first meeting but to just meet people and let them have their say.  It went really well and I'm so looking forward to the next one on Thursday 7 October.  We'll be having a speaker from Mercy Health to talk about self care and dealing with diagnosis.

  • Dear Peta

You are most welcome!  We meet on the first Thursday of every month at the

Delahey Community Centre, 80 Copperfield Drive, Delahey - 7-8pm.  The next one will be on 7 October.  Please do come - we'd love to have you.  The centre is not very far from where you are - it's just up Kings Road in St Albans - going towards Watergardens shopping centre.  You go up for a bit and then turn left at Hume Road (the last turn left before the shopping centre) and Copperfield Drive is the first turn left.

At the next meeting we are all going to bring a hat (Cup Day being 2 November - our meeting is on 4 November) so get yourself something you've either bought or made and bring it with you and we'll have a showing!

    Regards

    Jean

  • We had our second meeting on 7 October.  There was a very small turnout.  I'd love to see a lot more women from the Brimbank area at our meetings - it's so good when you can share with other people who are in the same situation.  We usually have a speaker.  At the next meeting on 4 November the speaker will be Mary Harvey - and oncologist and psychologist.  She is an interactive speaker and loves to have feedback from people.  I'm sure we will all have an interesting time.

Our 2 December meeting will be a mini Christmas party!  I hope we will have a good attendance.
