Radiation waiting times

Forgive me for being a stresshead but has anyone had to wait 16 weeks for radiation to start? My second op was Feb 22. My mapping appt is April 24 and my start date is May 14. I asked for it to be brought forward and they said they are just too busy. I cant go anywhere else as Im regional and have work and a family. The dr said its still effective if you have radiotherapy within 20 weeks but I havent heard of anyone having to wait that long.
  • Hi @MrsMorrisey, I had my DMX on 1 April 2020, and radiation started 24 June 2020. Not as long a wait time as you, but still long. I know with chemo there is a certain timeframe for it to be effective, but I don’t think the same applies to radiation. I think it’ll be just as effective even if started a bit later. (I could be wrong though). Good luck.
  • Yep @MrsMorrisey - mine 'could have been' about the same delay from surgery to Rads.  It was Mid Jan for surgery & I finished my rads the week of Easter (end of March) - but I was also given the option of 4 weeks later if I preferred to wait til after my 'holiday' to Norfolk Island which would have brought it in line with your treatment, Mid-late April - my Onc saying it wouldn't make any difference which date i chose ... but I chose to have it done before my trip ....

Back in 2018 they weren't 'as busy' as they obviously are now up there!  xx

    Take care

  • Cheers @FLClover I’ve always liked  your posts. You’ve got a good sense of humour. Same as mine so you must be funny 😂😂
and yes @arpie every woman and her dog has cancer in Port at the moment. Apparently one of the machines broke down. I asked this morning if I could be pushed forward a bit and the receptionist nearly choked. She said it’s like Tetris trying to organise appts and treatments.
I thought “ gee that fills me with confidence” 😩
  • Thanks @MrsMorrisey, they do say laughter is the best medicine, and humour does help me a great deal through ‘shitshows’ like this breast cancer gig. Good luck with radiation, and make sure to moisturise sufficiently. Fresh aloe from the leaf and a saline soak helped me enormously when treatment had finished 🍀.
