Hi Rowdy,
i saw a story on tv about turmeric being good for joint pain, but they had it in a concentrated capsule, not sure what dose. I start Arimidex in a few weeks after rads & I've always had joint pain, was planning on going back to glucosamine & krill oil. Let us know if the turmeric helps, good luck, Tracey ??

Hi Rowdy! Our local Pharmacist is a wealth of information. He recommended Turmeric capsules to a friend of mine on this BC journey and she found it helped with the aches in the joints.
Today my hairdresser was talking about crystals being a help with the healing process for this BC journey.
We are all open to suggestions. I struggle with the aching bones and I never realised that bones could ache as much as they do.
Bring on a healthier 2016 for us all
Take care

Hi Rowdy
This is Kathy from BCNA's Policy Team.
We would always recommend that you talk to your breast cancer specialist before starting any new complementary medicines and dietary supplements such as turmeric. Some complementary medicines interfere with breast cancer treatments and make them less effective. Vitamin C and St John's Wort, for instance. Some complementary medicines can also cause unwanted side effects.
The USA Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Centre has a fantastic website and smart phone App called About Herbs, Botanicals and other Products that has information on lots of different herbs and dietary supplements, their benefits and possible adverse effects.
It has information on turmeric which indicates that it has been found to reduce inflammation (causing joint pain) in laboratory animals, but that it is still being tested in humans. There is also a warning that turmeric can interfere with chemotherapy, so anyone still being treated with chemotherapy is advised not to take turmeric supplements. There are also other warnings, for example if you are predisposed to kidney stones or gallstones, or are taking warfarin or other blood thinners.
You might also find BCNA's booklet Hormone therapy and breast cancer helpful. It includes tips and advice to help manage joint pain caused by hormone therapies such as Arimidex. You can order a copy through our website.
All the best
Kathy

Hi Rowdy
I have just started this treatment as well. Have you tried just Panadol. It is recommended in the BC Manual. If it is too bad speak to your specialist. Good luck, I am a long way behind you. Lets all be Healthy, Happy and Hopeful for 2016.
Take care
Gaye

Hey Rowdy, hope you are doing ok. Will be interested to see your teams' position on turmeric. I have osteo arthritis and dreading joint pain - no more please!!!! I accidentally bought fresh turmeric at the supermarket instead is ginger earlier in the week (Christ, I cooked for a living- you'd think I'd know the difference...) and have seen recipes for turmeric tea.
I can barely stomach water at the moment but I'm interested to find out what the verdict is ??
