As the name suggests, triple negative breast cancer does not have any of the three receptors that are commonly found on breast cancer cells – oestrogen, progesterone and HER2 receptors. Anyone can be diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer but it occurs more often in younger patients who are pre-menopausal or under 50 years of age. People with a BRCA1 gene mutation also have a higher risk of this type of breast cancer. Triple negative breast cancer is a more aggressive type of tumour, with a faster growth rate, a higher risk of spreading to other parts of the body (metastasis) and of recurrence either in the breast or elsewhere. Because it does not have any of the more common receptors that can be targeted by medications, such as hormone and HER2-blocking drugs, it has fewer treatment options available. Standard treatment of early stage triple negative breast cancer typically includes chemotherapy, surgery and in many cases a course of radiotherapy. Often chemotherapy treatment is given prior to breast surgery (neoadjuvant chemotherapy), as it can effectively reduce the size of the breast cancer while providing useful information about the effectiveness of the treatment being given. Breast Cancer Trials has been researching new and better treatments for triple negative breast cancer. The CHARIOT clinical trial examined the addition of dual immunotherapy to standard chemotherapy and showed promising results in patients with treatment resistant, early-stage triple negative breast cancer. The Neo-N clinical trial is investigating whether using an immunotherapy drug together with chemotherapy, is safe and effective in treating breast cancer before surgery. Results of this study are expected later this year. Join our panel of experts as we explore triple negative breast cancer. Hi I was diagnosed with triple negative grade 3 stage 2 cancer 2 days before christmas 2020. I have a back injury and have been on the public waiting list for surgery as well as mental health issues. My claim for the disability pension got rejected as they like to say so I am putting in an appeal. I understand you have to reach a certain criteria. I have been unable to work for a very long time now and I would like some advice on appealing this decision. I have no idea how long my journey will be275Views0likes17CommentsTriple Neg.. Good News
It’s been a while since I last posted last post I was going through my first round of A/C and in hospital with Neutropenia well I ended up in hospital 2 more times after that but luckily nothing to serious. July 3rd I went for my lumpectomy and sentinel lymph node removal (3 in total) all seems to have gone well although still a little tender. on the 14th of July (yesterday) I went to see my surgeon and I’m pleased to say I had a full pathological response to my chemotherapy. Clear margins and clear lymph nodes. Radiation is still happening but that’s ok. I see this as a positive thing. I am so pleased with my result and wanted to share my good news in hope it bring’s hope to others with triple neg like myself but also to other fellow breast cancer fighters out there I know that I have a long road still ahead of me to be classed as a survivor but it’s a bloody good start and I’m going to enjoy every milestone that brings hope. peace love and best wishes to all x364Views5likes16CommentsTNBC
I was diagnosed 12 months ago with TNBC. During treatment I always thought of my boob as a shitty titty and now having completed treatment I thought about recurrence. I asked my Oncologist the % of chance of return. He said I'm high risk (Gulp). Im now trying to come to terms with 50/50 chance of recurrence. I'm quietly shitting myself while trying to remain positive. But shit, shit shit!!! I'm not crying but my eyes are leaking.Searching for a new GP in Townsville
Hi All. Am searching for a decent GP in Townsville - who understands the specific challenges of post treatment breast cancer. I was diagnosed in March 2016 with triple negative. Did 8 rounds of TAC + double mastectomy + sentinel node biopsy + 25 rounds of intense dose radiation + 8 cycles of Capecitabine. Am 3 years cancer free. Have moved to Townsville and need to find a good GP who understands. Any suggestions?193Views0likes10Comments
