Overseas travel
Hi ladies, Just wondering if anyone has had any luck with getting travel insurance? I don't think we are eligible (what a burden we must be!!). I'm considering and hoping to plan a trip to Europe early next year for maybe a month, with my husband and little one year old girl. It's a bit tricky to plan and organise, as I see my oncologist every 6-8 weeks, and I feel like everything can fall apart at any of those appointments.... But everything is going really well for me at the moment! I'm "young" (38) and feel fit and healthy - always have actually. It's just the scans and doctors telling me I'm not. I was first diagnosed with brca in 2009, then metastatic nearly a year ago. I have been taking lynparza (an oral daily tablet) for nearly 3 months which so far is working (yay!) so I feel like this is my chance to do the trip. I know my health wouldn't suddenly deteriorate while over there - it would just be if 1) I had to cancel flights because my tumor marker suddenly went up, or of more concern 2) I managed to have a fall somehow and broke a bone (the first in my life!). Then I would have medical expenses that wouldn't be covered. But I'm thinking it's worth it without insurance anyway... :) Any thoughts or advice ladies?Travel insurances
I have been diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in the bone. Lesions in hips & neck of femur. Other lesions in the thorax but not necessarily breast cancer. My Oncologist has advised that it’s ok for me to travel nationally and internationally. Can anyone advise which Travel Inurance company has the most understanding method of assessing loading rates and exclusions.371Views0likes13CommentsTravel insurance after Lumpectomy
Hello all , I went through a lumpectomy 10mths ago followed by Radiation treatment (stage1). Wanting to fly to the states next year but don’t know weather do declare to the travel insurance companies anything ? One quote jumped to $1500 for my family. It’s not if I get sick over there it’s incase of a reoccurrence & I need to cancel before we go. Has anyone traveled after ?? Who did you use ??301Views0likes11CommentsTravel insurance
just wanted to share Tick insurance now has a medical screen and I got insurance for two trips next year at very good rates and covered for breast cancer at no extra charge. I got a quote yesterday at escape for 4 to 4 times the prices. I haven’t had to make a claim before but the PDF looks very comprehensive.231Views0likes6CommentsFrustration with travel insurance policies, is it chemo brain or just confusing legalese?
Hi all. Yesterday a battle weary hubby and I booked an overseas trip and we have to pay the deposit tomorrow. Of course being diligent I read the BCNA fact sheet on travel insurance and breast cancer which recommended I check my insurer's Product Disclosure Statement (PDS). I was happy to read in my insurer's PDS that they automatically cover breast cancer provided you were diagnosed over 6 months ago, have not had any chemotherapy or radiotherapy in the last 6 months, your cancer has not spread beyond the primary site at any time and your journey is less than 6 months. That seems great for me as I tick all the boxes. However, I was also checking reviews of different insurers on some travel websites where people reported instances of the fine print being problematic when it came to making a claim causing doubt as to whether someone with a previous diagnosis of cancer is covered or not. This lead me to take a closer look at some of the clauses.. For example, hubby and I opted to take additional cancellation cover. The PDS states that if due to circumstances outside of your control and unforeseen at the relevant time you have to cancel the journey (where you cannot rearrange prior to leaving home) they will pay the non-refundable unused portions of all travel costs prepaid in advance. It's still not clear to me (maybe it's that darn chemo brain again) that if a recurrence is diagnosed prior to departure and you have to change or cancel your travel plans to undergo treatment whether you are covered, since one interpretation could be that for breast cancer a recurrence is not really an 'unforeseen' event. And what about if you do have a recurrence and being on that roller coaster again means you just want to cancel your trip altogether and not have to 'rearrange it' because hey sometimes you just have too much stuff to deal with, are you covered for that? Of course my travel agent was no help with my questions so I did what I thought was sensible and rang to seek confirmation from the insurer about what I would be covered for only to be told "sorry I can't help you as you are dealing with a travel agent." What the...???????? Since I can't get any answers from the insurer can anyone clarify for me? Or has someone ever taken out travel insurance, had a recurrence before they went on the trip and then made a claim? The trip is not until Sept and it's rather pricey. I don't want to have to pay a large deposit tomorrow if I am feeling a bit unsure about being insured. Thanks in advance231Views0likes15CommentsTravel Insurance
Hello Wonder Women, I will be taking a break in Bali after radiotherapy is finished. Can anyone recommend a good travel insurance provider? I read the BCNA fact sheet on travel insurance but as you'd expect they don't recommend particular companies. I don't want to waste my time talking to insurers who will make it hard for me to get coverage due to early breast cancer diagnosis. Thanks in advance :-)221Views0likes13CommentsTravel insurance
