Post Mastectomy Pain Syndrome
Dear Sisters.. Has anyone had Post Mastectomy Pain Syndrome? 12 years after my first Mastectomy and full auxiliary clearance, I’ve experienced itching; then prickling pain and feeling of inflammation along the scar and near the edge of the scapular under the arm. Most annoying in its suddenness like an attack. Also felt like waves of pain. Relieved mainly with cold pack. .. until the next attack! Anyone else had this experience?691Views0likes21CommentsIt really hurts around the site of my drain tube scar?
Hi everyone, I have pain that seems new (? Last fortnight or so) all round the area where my drain tube would have been, internally. If that makes sense. If you visualise the line the tube would have made from the skin entry point up inside the body about 10cm and into the side of my boob - it hurts. It’s nearly 12 months since surgery. The drain scar tissue is lumpy but looks fine in its own special way. But if I press around the area even gently, I get quite sharp tender pain. The lumpectomy scar doesn’t even hurt this much! My beautiful breast care nurses tell me it’s normal to still have pain this long after surgery and it just takes Time (that most excellent healer). So does anyone else have this kind of sharp tenderness around their drain site a year later? I know pain is kind of subjective, but yknow! I’m worried there’s something wrong or maybe the pain has ramped up as a side effect of Zoladex. Just seems too weird that it’s so tender still. It’s been 9 months since my lumpectomy, 6 months since radiation and think I’ve found another lump 😔 I’ve been having pains in my breast over the last couple of weeks which only really started since getting back in to the gym and exercise (a month ago) GP put it down to muscle strain and I thought so too....but today I started to feel around and it’s firm on another side of my breast to the surgery and I felt a lump in a different area to the first one. I’m freaking out. How I’ll stay sane until I get the proper checks done...I don’t know I honestly wish it would just f%#* off301Views1like7CommentsArm nerve pain post surgery
Hi everyone. Just wondering if anyone has had problems with nerve pain in arm after lumpectomy? I had surgery two days ago and they removed 5 lymph nodes but said they didn’t touch any nerves but the back of my arm and armpit are numb and I get horrendous random pain down my arm at random times and all from different movements... was maybe after any suggestions to help ease this (apart from icing?) until I see surgeon next week? Thanks 😊261Views0likes23CommentsSurgery Scar
Sorry if this photo is a bit yuck but I was wondering if anyone else had scaring that looks like this. I’m 3 weeks post surgery and stitches have been out for almost 2 weeks. it looked like this straight after surgery, like an indentation and pucker, with stitches of course. My boob is still quite sore, especially if not supported. My nipple is very sensitive too. I’m seeing a BC nurse on Thursday. I was recommended bio oil but it hurts too much to rub on.241Views0likes13CommentsWhen can I sleep on the other side grrrr....
Thanks for all your replies to my previous discussion about "tethering" - Note: I haven't yet worked out how to reply to you in that discussion but your honesty & support were wonderful. I'm now 9 weeks post surgery for a left mastectomy & auxiliary clearance and still find it uncomfortable to sleep on my left side. I'm fed up with sleeping on the right as I have developed bursitis in my right hip & I'm wondering how or when Ill ever sleep on my left side again. Any ideas, suggestions, time frames for others ?? Same goes for wearing a bra & prosthesis - 9 weeks out & I can still only manage a post op bra on good days. After chemo even that gentle bra feels unbearably tight !!!!191Views0likes8CommentsPost mastectomy pain
So it’s 12 days since my double mastectomy. Drains came out yesterday which was a huge relief. I was blaming them on the incredible discomfort. However, not much has improved. The drain hole sites are still very sore and the top of my rib cage and chest area. I told the visiting nurses and they said it’ll probably be uncomfortable for a while. UNCOMFORTABLE!!! I’m munching panadols like Smarties! When does it start to ease up abit girls?181Views0likes5CommentsReacting to prescribed painkillers: Alternatives?
I am struggling with pain management during my B/C treatment. Yesterday I went to day surgery for port insertion and the procedure was fine. To manage post op pain, they sent me home with Palexia (Tapentadol) which is an opioid. In the past, I have taken Endone (Oxycodone), Tramadol, and Panadeine Forte, and all of them have made me vomit a la The Exorcist. I was told that Palexia was similar to Endone but it is less likely to cause vomiting or nausea. However, two hours after I took the tablet I vomited four times and was very dizzy :( I was told to take Olanzapine beforehand for nausea and vomiting. It stopped the vomiting but I had to lie down for two hours because the room was spinning and I felt waves of nausea. My experience does not bode well for my surgery (lumpectomy, lymph node removal, and partial reconstruction: seeing my surgeon again in October) in November. Does anyone else find they react badly to these types of drugs? If so, how does your team manage severe pain?181Views0likes15CommentsPain from armpit to behind nipple
Hi! For a week I've had a sort of burning pain when i stretch my arm over my head that goes from my armpit to my breast and under my nipple. Now my breast hurts to touch. At first I thought it might be muscle but it's different. It's been 2 months since i finished radiation and have had no other problems since then. I've had a lumpectomy and then sentinel node biopsy (2 nodes, both clear). Is this normal?? No swelling that i can see and i exercise a bit181Views0likes11Comments
