Negative impact of radiation on Flap (autologous) reconstruction??
Hi all, will have mastectomy in a couple of months time, am considering to have an immediate breast reconstruction (IBC) using my own tissues/ flap (autologous). Unfortunately, I will have a series of radiation after the IBC. I am worried the radiotherapy will kill/destroy/ causing complications on the flaps. I did some research at my end. However the comments were conflicting. Therefore would appreciate your advice. Please..no advice is too silly. Thanks heaps!124Views0likes5CommentsGah. Back again.
Almost seven years ago I roller-skated through Olivia Newton John hospital to Xanadu for my last radiotherapy session, post lumpectomy. Here I am again... another oestrogen positive cancer, same stoopid dense breast. It was picked up on MRI as it couldn't be seen through my milky dense breast tissue and after an MRI biopsy (such fun!!!) I was diagnosed last week. So now I'm up for a double mastectomy and trying to make reconstruction decisions. I'm thinking I may need to go the Johnny Diep Flap. Seeing the plastic surgeon tomorrow. Really glad you're here....338Views1like7CommentsBoth !! Triple negative and HER2 positive diagnosis in the same breast synchronous
Hi i have just had a left breast full mastectomy and sentinel node/s excision due to initial diagnosis of extensive high grade DCIS. I had DIEP flap reconstruction at the same time. Tests of the removed tissue indicate both Triple negative and HER2 positive cancers (early stage) in the same breast at the same time. My surgeons are on leave. I have only received a partial summary report so far and donโt get full results or next steps for treatment til end of January. Is this unusual to have 2 types of BC at once? In the same breast? Any others have similar experience. The half news and lack of next steps just now with all the specialists away is a psychological and emotional challenge. Advice appreciated thank you ๐๐ผ332Views0likes10CommentsAccessing Choosing Reconstruction group
HI BCNA I am trying to join the private discussion group Choosing Reconstruction but the system keeps rejecting my application for posting twice in 60 seconds (spam prevention). As this is not the case I'm wondering if there's an error somewhere and if someone could help me? Kind Regards Tanya91Views0likes4CommentsSELF CHECKING AFTER A DOUBLE MASTECTOMY AND LOBULAR CANCER
Hi all, I have just had my reconstruction which hasn't been successful..(that's another long story) but I am wanting to know if any one had Lobular Cancer , double mastectomy and breast implants? I was booked in for an MRI and my surgeon canceled this due to me having my tissue removed in both breasts, she then told me I have to self check my boobs as there is no screening etc. Again I left the hospital appointment with no clue how to do this self checking, and my anxiety has hit the roof thinking... I had no lumps in my breast that I felt and the mammogram picked up calcifctions not my cancer, and I was then told I have the 'Sneaky Cancer' So how do I know if the cancer returns? if technology did not pick this up, how do I do this to 'prevent' this going to my lymph.(The breast Care nurse stated that I will feel a lump in my lymph) But I don't want to get to the stage of it returning in my lymph.. Also I have the Zoledex injections every 28 days as I was high risk as near my chest wall.... how do I check the chest wall etc? My breast care nurse said to speak to my oncologist at my next appointment, to show me how to test myself, but im wondering if anyone else had a double mastectomy with lobular and how is the after care with testing? Thanks and hope you are all keeping well xx151Views0likes15CommentsDouble Masectomy or radiation
Hi, I'm new to this forum, I'm 42 and was diagnosed with early breast cancer 7 weeks ago. Hormone +ve herceptin -ve I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy and am healing well. The nodes came back clear (yay what a relief) but the lumpectomy showed 2 additional smaller tumors that the original MRI didn't pick up. (I have dense breasts so Mammogram/ ultrasound didn't pick up anything). I've been having yearly MRI for 15 years. I have a family history of breast cancer, my mum and 2 aunties and possibly my grandmother. All diagnosed below 50. I don't have a breast cancer gene. I have to decide (quickly) either to go ahead with radiation or have a double masectomy to reduce my future risk. I had basically decided on masectomy but then the gene test came back clear and threw my decision making process into disarray. Has anyone on here, at high risk decided to have a double masectomy (with implant reconstruction) even when they didn't need it to treat their cancer? I'm wondering how you made your final decision? A few things holding me back from making the big decision, is the -numbness across my chest after the masectomy (did ladies find this hard to get used too)? - with the under muscle implants, did ladies find they caused any muscle weakness long term? I'm finding it a really hard decision. My mum fought hard to keep her breasts (and so far is still clear 18 years later) and I'm leaning towards the full masectomy, as I'm a single mum with a 4yo and the weight of another cancer weighs on me. Sorry for the long ramble ๐241Views0likes9CommentsConfirmed BRCA2 gene carrier, 29 year old. Reconstructive surgery discussion re:surgeons etc
Hello everyone, I am 29 years old. I got tested and carry the BRCA2 gene after my aunty developed ovarian cancer. I am pretty confident and sure I would like to proceed down the preventative bilateral mastectomy route. I am in fact a nurse but have been living in England for the last 4 years. I plan to come home next year for my 30th and reconstruction! what an event to enter my 30th year! Please can anyone recommend any fantastic preferably female oncoplastic breast surgeons in Melbourne? Public or private. Has anyone done the same this as me and have had a preventative mastectomy? I would love to get in contact with someone in the same boat as me. Thanks :)72Views0likes2CommentsReclaim Your Curves Breast Reconstruction Group - lunch Sunday 23rd February - Sydney
