Metal Clip left after Aux. Dissection
After surgery in May this year for Aux. Dissection (had Aux. Clearance in 2014) checkup revealed some tenderness and oncology registrar thought it might be another lymph node. After CT Scan and Bone Scan on Monday had Ultrasound to the area under my armpit today. Biopsy performed and Dr. believes cause of tenderness from metal clip. I don't have a follow-up appointment until 13/12. Has anyone else had anything like this?Re: Friday Funnies
The massage therapist told me this one as I was having a lymph drainage massage: A Labrador dog got up to heaven and God asked what his values were. "Friendship and support," replied the Labrador. I had my first round of BC in 2014 and sailed through the tx. I was already relocating to a regional area, and when I did fell into a heap. I've always struggled with depression and anxiety so thought it was reactional due to multiple losses over the past few years. Then I learnt fatigue can often follow radiation tx. Most of the time I didn't want to be here. Long story short I was diagnosed with complex ptsd and severe chronic fatigue over the next 3 years. I had 2 years of therapy and was well into recovery when earlier this year they wanted to do a biopsy after the annual mamogram. I've had a much more difficult time healing (I am cancer-free) with complications and it's been a wakeup call. I have just returned from a Gawler Foundation Cancer retreat and it has made all the difference for me. It has been the right thing at the right time. I am committed to healing and to a fulfilling life ahead.Re: Seroma fluid build up
@jewel-ee I'm not sure as I had a drain in for 2 weeks, I don't think it was there then. It was when the surgeon removed the drain (though still losing fluid) that the BC nurse talked to me about the fluid filling the place where lymph nodes removed as being the body's natural reaction (seroma). Since then I've been told the long lump above the incision is scar tissue. The physio has given me some exercises which certainly help with some of the discomfort and keep my arms moving. I had my op (aux dissection) 8 weeks ago after having aux clearance & lumpectomy 4 years ago. Surgeon went through same scar and the area became red and hot. GP put me on antibiotics but got hospitalised for infection where they used ultrasound, local anesthetic and drained some fluid (which was tested and found to be free of any bugs) then was put on IV antibiotics followed by oral which were different to the ones the GP prescribed. I have been left with a seroma which at times is hard. The site is still uncomfortable and sensitive as well as being a bit pink. I've seen a BC experienced physio who has massaged the area and told me it is taking longer due to the radiation tx I had 4 years ago, have had oncology massages. I still wear bras most of the time. Hi @Lemonade, your post got me researching and I found this interesting blog post -https://elynjacobs.com/2012/01/15/natural-alternatives-to-tamoxifen/ and also came across the concept of an "integrative oncologist" which I found interesting as well. I am in a different stage of life (post-menopausal) and after recent surgery (aux dissection) was declared cancer-free as long as I take an oestrogen suppressant. 4 years ago I had lumpectomy and aux clearance and took Arimadex, now wanting to find natural alternatives. As has been said many times, we are all on our own journeys, treatment teams are required to offer standard practice treatment advice, and thanks to some women on this site, I am slowly becoming more proactive about my own health. I have had a couple of public tearful episodes over the past couple of weeks. The Most Public was after surgery for aux dissection, woke up urgently needing to pee forgetting I had a drain in place. The tube came away from the bag and I was freaking out. The District Nurses came early following my panicked phone call, however the nurse was new to community nursing and it was suggested I go to the local Emergency Department. Having only lived in the area 4 years, I'd never been to that part of the hospital, and though I could see the sign, there was no obvious doorway where the arrow pointed. After walking half a block (following the literal direction of the arrow) and back again I reluctantly asked someone (I should be able to find the entrance on my own FFS!) and it was right there, a big sliding door which looked like a window to me. Fortunately there was only one person in line at the counter but it was then that the slow trickle became a deluge of tears in the half-filled waiting room of people. Fortunately one of the nurses on the desk when my turn came and I explained my reason for being there and the reason for the tears, took me straight into a room off to the side, and fixed the tube back into the drain. He said he would tell the manager about my difficulty finding the doorway, but he wasn't aware of anyone else having had that problem before. @Sister all the best, you are not alone xoxoRe: Where did my gratitude go?
