What is best prosthesis/form for swimming?

Does anyone with a largish (DDcup) remaining breast and using a prosthesis on the other side, have any helpful advice on brands and types of breastform to use for chlorine and sea swimming?

I will be in Melbourne on Wed and Thurs next week and hope to pick up a suitab le form.

  • Thanks for the input, it is so helpful to hear from others who have been through the same problem and solved it well.

  • I had to get a bigger half/partial prosthesis because my replacement implant is much smaller & still a work in progress .....blah blah & so on. When I went to get the new one I asked if I could swim with it & was told I could as long as I washed it gently each day. Which is what I did. I went home & started sewing triangle pockets in my tank tops. It worked well I am happy to report, because we were basically spending all day in our swimmers I wasn't fussing with it &to keep it secure I used little plastic press studs to close the pocket. Even though it was a bit smaller I had a sarong tied around me if I was walking anywhere & something was better than nothing.

I am about a D/DD & the partial is an Amoena Balance Delta & if you have a look on the internet it is a weighted one & I found  it great, didn't have any issues with using it this way.

  • My swimming breast form was an amoena, which was the same brand as my normal prosthesis. They actually look quite big but are hollow. They are triangular in shape. I found that I needed proper mastectomy swimmers to put it in. The lady in the shop tried to talk me out of buying it and she said most women just use an old foam soft form. However I did feel very confident with it in. Apparently the reason they are hollow and big is because that's the way our normal breast goes when squashed into Lycra. I got it at the lingerie shop that fitted me for my original prosthesis. Actually you have motivated me to give it to my local breast care nurse as I have had a reconstruction and so no need for it anymore. It is a size 6 which is a C cup. Happy shopping, and swimming.
