That subject line is very hard to write and even harder to comprehend that it applies to me. I love my breasts and am not happy that now there is only one.Anyway, I have had very little pain, in fact the drip injection site is giving me more grief that the mastectomy and aux clearance side!Morphine on tap. I was very uncomfortable with the thought of morphine as I have never had it before, I was encouraged to use and and am currently pain free. I have used it twice so far.And I've only cried twice so far!!! I think I am doing really well 😀. Had about one billion hot flushes though...Take care everyone. Back to my book 'Boots to Bliss' who knows maybe I will take (part of) that walk...morphine talking methinks LOL.

Big step. But also done. Healing takes a bit of time, the body sometimes faster than the brain. Being mono boobed is a bit of an adjustment, but you are still you, your body is still your friend and yes, the future can be very fine indeed. Take care.

Hi @LIttleBlueWren Wishing you well. Had mine off one week ago and got out of hospital on Saturday. Its a roller coaster.I hear what you are saying about the drain bag though. What a pain, I'm terrified of catching it on something and ripping it out. Going for dressing changes a the local hospital every two days. Thinking of you and be kind to yourself xoxo

So far it has been pretty good for me, minimal pain, getting very well looked after by my partner and lots of chocolate and custard (medicinal of course ::smile: ).I went back to the hospital yesterday as the drain site was leaking, they checked it over and put a new bandage on and sent me home, so very happy with that.Cheers and have a great day.

Looks like the BC Rollercoaster has arrived at my door. Last night I had a temp (38.8), my partner declared that he was taking me to hospital and here I am with an infection on antibiotics sitting in a hospital bed.Silver lining: this bed is super comfy, the nurses are just wonderful and I just had yummy fresh fuit salad.Laughing not crying 😀Have a great day all.

Thanks lovlies.I have been blown away by the kindness of everyone and the nurses have been fantastic.I was allowed to wear my headwear into theatre with a surgical shower cap thingo over the top and I woke up with it on my head, I was so worried about people seeing my bald head. On a postive note @kiwi angel at least I don't have to worry about a ponytail just yet 😀.I've been given a FREE soft bra and post surgical prosthetic, a drain bag and pillow. I feel pretty lucky and weirdly grateful right now.

Thanks for the comments guys, now know a little bit on what to expect. For sure I will take some painkillers beforehand me thinks. Good on you @LIttleBlueWren for great results. xox

I was advised that I did not need dressing changes as the surgeon would take a look during my post surgical appointment (which was today). However, the drain opening started leaking so I went to the hospital on Sunday and they fixed me up. I then came home and sat on the lounge and got my toe tangled in the drain tubes and tugged it a bit...holy cow! I will not repeat what I said. The thing started leaking again but I left it as I knew I was seeing the surgeon today.
With any luck you will still be a bit numb and wont feel the drain being removed. I hope so.

I just had both drains removed and it didn't hurt ( I had taken panadol and neurofen before in anticipation of the removal), I did feel the sensation of the tubing being pulled through my body and that was unsettling. I think that the area is still numb from surgery. I go back next week and will probably need some fluid removed via a needle. He says it wont hurt because I will still be numb...we will see.

Happy with my pathology as well. He took out thirteen lymph nodes and they are all clear. The breast tissue showed a spot with 'chemotherapy effect' and no evidence of residual ILC. I am feeling grateful and lucky.

Now for rads...

@kitkatb My first drain being removed hurt like billy-o. So for my second one I had some painkiller beforehand. Much better! If you're worried about it, request a strong painkiller beforehand. But a bit like an injection, it's over and done with quickly, so try not to worry about it too much. K xox

By the time the drains are ready to come out, I'm ready to pull them out myself! It's fabulous to be rid of your horrible little handbags and well worth the minor discomfort of having them removed. Mxx

Drain removal didn't hurt for me. It was a strange sensation as it runs along the skin and a relief when it's out.

Thanks @iserbrown Everything seems to be going okay. Starting to get a bit panicky about having the drain pulled out though for some reason. ( hopefully this Friday when I go back for a check and pathology results from the mastectomy ) Would love to hear from someone what to expect from drain removal.
