Surgery Date Set

Hi Guys

Finally set this up on my computer, so I can respond better now to all the lovely messages I have been sent.

Things are happening quickly, saw the hospital on Friday, they rung today and my surgery is next Thursday.

I have a couple of questions, if that's okay. How was the recovery time for the lumpectomy. And also for the Sentinal Node Biopsy. Do you get very sore under the arm. I had a phyllode tumour removed last year and was sore for few days, but got very sick from the tubes, so was coughing and very ill, couldn''t talk due to inflammed airways, asthma. Then got mastitis for 2 weeks, so was pretty lousy.

I've just arranged to see this GP anaesthetist at the hospital and looks like they will put me on prendisone for my asthma a few days before surgery, so I am happy they are looking at helping before surgery.

Another question, how long after lumpectomy would I expect to start radiation. I was guessing it may be a little while as they would have to wait for wound to heal? Weeks, longer?

And last question, lol. Since I have found this out 2 weeks ago today that the lump I had wasn't good, I have been struggling with my memory. Forgetting things I normally wouldn't, basic names, phone numbers, appointments etc. I feel like I'm in a fog, and do suffer migraines which affect me in similar way, but find it is freaking me out, my mind dosen't feel clear. I'm forgetting to message people back and respond. Have to think what day it is...Is this normal after such news. I hope so, as I need no other issues medically, lol.

Thanks in advance for your responses, very much appreciated.

May God bless us all and keep us healthy and happy :)

  • Thanks Mona.

I appreciate the reply. Good to know things Luke possibly few weeks with the arm, nodes etc. Someone asked me today what side the lump was on. Then the reality of I'm right handed and would be affected more than I realised. Thankfully I have my 2 kids living nearby, and one at home with me. My daughter is coming from London to stay with me for a while to feed me up while I'm recovering and help look after me. So I may not have a partner or husband, but got a lot of love and support around me. xx

  • Hi there I had my lumpectomy and lymph node operation in August 2013 and radiation in October/November that year. My surgeon fast tracked tests and operation that waiting for public radiation was quite difficult.  However I wouldn't change a thing as Peter Mac was great. You do have to heal completely and my scar on breast is invisible but the lymph node was slightly more painful: but also stopped me fro lifting etc for a few weeks. That surprised me I thought it would be more about discomfort from breast.  As for forgetting things: be gentle it is a lot to take on and I was in shock for a good week and then functioning on one level and on a roller coaster emotionally so there's a lot going on! Best wishes
