starting my 'journey'

Good luck with your chemo. Mine will probably start the first week in February. Saw my oncologist yesterday. They have delayed part of my treatment due to my partner and I had to decide on whether we were going to get embryos frozen. I have my heart ultrasound on 28th January. I am having a portacath. How are you having your chemotherapy injected? I am having 4 courses of doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide, every 3 weeks. Then paclitaxel for the following 12 weeks. I will be having treatment on a Friday but have to go in on a Thursday for bloods or something. ( I have forgotten that already). Do you have to do that? Talk to your oncologist about your dates. It is very easy to be concerned or worried about treatment. Where abouts in Sydney are you based? Trina xxxx

Thanks Ingrid I start on the 17th. Does anyone know if I can change days for my 2nd course. It's due on the Fri 3 weeks later but my niece's wedding is on the Sunday after an would like to have my treatment on the Mon this way I can participate better in the wedding. I'll ask next week but some advice is appreciated. Katia xxoo

Hi Katia, Great about the clearance. I am still awaiting for my ocologist appointment. Good luck with it. Glad you have a break over Christmas. I just get the public holidays off. I am finding being back at work that I am tired every day. I hope I am not too tired after chemo to at least work a few days a week and rest on the weekends. I am trying to go for a walk everyday to try and keep a bit of fitness as I am overweight. Let us know how you go with your chemo. Trina xxxx

hi all

I saw my doctor today. the margins and lymph nodes are clear. Thank God no more surgery. the cancer has been classified as grade 3 instead of grade 2 now therefore needing chemo. waiting to hear re an appt with an oncologist to plan my treatment. I should be starting in the new year.

I had an infection under my arm and it's getting better with antibiotics. 

I am going back to work tomorrow. i'll be working this week and next week then 2 weeks off for the Christmas break which is good to have before I start my treatment.

I am so very grateful for these results.

Thanks Trina & Chris. I'll go to my gp today and see what he says about the swelling. To me it looks red & infected.

Hi Katia, I agree with Chris. I actually still have my drain and I had surgery 8 days ago. I have not had swelling but I believe the fluid has gone into the drain. I seem to get pain in my arm and pins and needles. Really have not had too much pain on the surgery sites. I can't lift my arm too much due to the drain. I had all my lymph nodes out. I have my post op today. Hopefully all clear and I just need the recommended radiotherapy. Plus I hoped drain can come out too. It is really annoying. Trina Xxxxx

Hi Katia, the swelling might be a collection of lymphatic fluid or blood, or just soft tissue swelling. The whole area is pretty sensitive. I had a major bleed under my expander at 3 weeks post mastectomy, and it spread to my under arm and I couldn't put it down either. It needed to be drained and cleaned out in theatre. The pain could be related to your swelling, which is pressing on nerves. I would definitely check with your doctor, but hopefully the pain will go once the swelling subsides. Love Chris xx
