Query on seeing my chiro tomorrow, 6 days after surgery?

Hi again

I have made an appoinment to see my chiropractor tomorrow as have had so much pain in my body since surgery.

I'm not quite sure as since surgery I seem to have had swelling around back of neck, shoulder blades etc and been uncomfortable my skin to touch. I did go to the doctor 2 days after surgery to ask and she said it was probably because I have a damaged neck prior to surgery it has probably flared up, although the swelling has concerned me. I took anti inflammatories for 48 hours and had improvement. Have stopped now as trying to get by without them. I would definately say there is still some swelling and discomfort in that whole upper region of my body.

So my concern was, should I be going to a chiro or waiting until all this settles down. If it was just a sore neck I wouldn't worry, but because still some swelling, I'm wondering whether maybe they may be pushing fluid around or something like that. Does that make sense. He is very good, I just don't want to make an error with treatment during this first week or two recovery from surgery.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Cheers, Karen :)

  • I go to a osteopath every now and then but after surgery I had a few massages including one lymphatic one and I think these were great for swelling, support and sounds a bit new age but wondering off any surgery is a bit like an assault where it can show up with stiffness or not feeling quiet yourself so massage seems to be a good option for all of the above: supportive rather than correcting   Might be hard pressed to find any specialist who would recommend chiros and osteopath etc!

  • Hi Karen

i agree with the others. I think it is a bit soon too go to the chiropractor. I would be referring to the breast surgeon to find out what they think. I have pain on and off in my shoulder since I had a lumpectomy in May 2014. I find when I use the arm/hand on the surgery side a lot that it becomes swollen and sore (lymphodeama). Good luck and I hope you can get it sorted soon. Karen xox

  • Personally,I would not be seeing a chiro! It can take weeks to recover from surgery.Be guided by your doctor/ surgeon at this time. These are the people with the expertise in this area.Cheers Robyn xox

  • Hi Karen,

I'd check with your doctor first.  You could also ask your chiro if he has any experience in dealing with situations like this, if he is very experienced he may have treated other clients with similar concerns.

I hope it all turns out well for you.

    cheers

  • Hi Karen, I personally think it's abit soon after surgery to be going to a chiro but you know what's best for you.It takes a few weeks for the pain and fluid to settle down I found.Don't forget they pump you with iv fluids during surgery so that has to settle too.Just go with your gut. Tonya xx
