My Birthday 1 Dec, Good Day and Bad Day

Hi to everyone who gave me lovely birthday wishes on my birthday 1 Dec.  I had a lovely day my hubby and I went to Tassie Food & Wine Conservatory and had a gourmet tasting plate.  MY INDULGENCE.   The 2 days before I had my chemo5 + Herceptin and the next day had the Pegfilgrastrim injection for Neutrapenia.  Last week admitted to hospital.  Had to fly out as we are 200km from Launceston.  Had flu type symptoms.  Stayed 6 days.  Rested a lot.  The Pegfilgrastim does give me the aches and pains, but Onco gave me endone to take, which I have taken.  I seem to get the aches more in bed than during the day.

Yesterday got my surgery date for my double Masectomy.  Wed 18th January.  Not to far away. Going to Hobart for Xmas after my last chemo 6  + Herceptin and the next day I will give myself the Pegfilgrastrim injection.

If there is anything I should do or know before mastectomy, I would appreciate it.

Christina xx

  • thanks @primeK.  I have the original breast pillow given by the cancer council which i can pop under the boob area (what's left that is....)  Hubby's been good but a bugger when it comes to going to a doctor for himself. (too busy driving me everywhere)  He has a foot infection and I finally got him to go the doctor, and they said "lucky you came in because your foot would have been amputated next week and your wife will be taking you to hospital. - not the other way round".  So lets hope the antibiotics and everything kicks in quickly.  Men... can't live with them or live without them" ..... ha ha
  • @"Christina 55" I am sude sleeper too. It was hard. I eventually found using a neck pilloe ubder my boob area a pillow behind ne and hugging a pillow allowed me to sleep sort  of on my side.
  • Thanks @primeK., and @anne-marie_bcna   I will look at the websites

Thanks for the other advice @socoda.   I have tri-pillows already, so prepared for that. I'm a side sleeper, but now doubt will learn very quickly to become a back sleeper.  I think I have bio oil as well. Hope you all have a good Christmas.    xxchristina

  • Hi Christina, I took up the suggestion of getting a U shaped pillow (you could even get a couple - Kmart $12-00). Helps to prop you up in bed and because you are going to have drains you're going to need to sleep on your back initially. These pillows make life comfortable. Also get some Micropore tape from the chemist as I found my drains were moving slightly and getting quite sore and a strip or two of micropore to really anchor the drains in place made a huge difference to how sore the drain site was. I also got some Biosource (brand) Skincare oil - this is exactly the same product as Bio Oil but so much cheaper. Oh also either ask for some extra thick dressing pads or buy some from chemist as you use these to slip under your mastectomy bra and create a buffer between your suture line and the bra line as that area can get quite tender and the dressing pads make life a lot more comfortable.
