Facing breast cancer without a partner

Question

Yesterday I was told that I had breast cancer and was told that I would be going to Peter Mac clinic in Melbourne ASAP, most probably in 10 days. It was only a week ago that I had a core biopsy taken following on from a routine mammogram through Breastscreen. I have a great family but feel so alone as I am not in a relationship and do not have any children. At this stage my doctor has not told me what stage breast cancer I have, I see her again on Monday. Does the doctor normally tell you this information or do you have to wait for the surgeon? I will be seeing a breast cancer nurse on Tuesday.&nbsp;

Hi, Your mind must be spinning at the moment.&nbsp; It all happens so fast.&nbsp; My advice would be take your time and don't let anyone - surgeons, councellors or friends talk you into something you don't want.&nbsp; If&nbsp;it takes a few weeks to make a decision so be it.&nbsp; The cancer has been there longer than that.&nbsp; I don't have a partner either but do have 2 children.&nbsp; I waited to tell my kids and family until I knew what was going on.&nbsp;Probably looking back I should have involved them sooner.&nbsp; Talk to other women face to face who have had surgery, I think this would have helped me more than anything. Facing this without a partner is hard.&nbsp; Hang in there! Good luck. I'll be thinking of you. My prayers are with you.

Hi everyone. As yet I have not spoken to the breast cancer nurse, I have heard that they are very helpful. I bought a crop top bra today and some button up pjs. I have yet to hear from Peter Mac clinic. At the moment the only information I am getting is from this forum, so thank you to all you lovely ladies for your advice and information.
I hope that you are all doing well with your treatments and life beyond cancer

I was diagnosed late November last year at the age of 42. I couldn't believe that "I" was being told I had breast cancer. When I walked out of the specialists rooms that Friday afternoon, I felt like my world was coming down around me.
But, I am a lucky one that has a big family and lots of friends around to support me.
All I can say is, stay positive. It is really hard to do sometimes, but you have to shake off the bad feelings and get on with what you have to do.
The breast care nurses are the most wonderful people in the world and will help you every step of the way.
I joined a support group&nbsp;and it was the best thing I could have done. The women in this group are amazing. And now that I have found this website, I feel&nbsp;that bit better again. It helps you to remember that you are not alone in this battle. there are people out there to talk to.
Good luck with everything. I really do&nbsp;hope it all turns out well for you.
