Facing breast cancer without a partner
Yesterday I was told that I had breast cancer and was told that I would be going to Peter Mac clinic in Melbourne ASAP, most probably in 10 days. It was only a week ago that I had a core biopsy taken...
Hi, Your mind must be spinning at the moment. It all happens so fast. My advice would be take your time and don't let anyone - surgeons, councellors or friends talk you into something you don't want. If it takes a few weeks to make a decision so be it. The cancer has been there longer than that. I don't have a partner either but do have 2 children. I waited to tell my kids and family until I knew what was going on. Probably looking back I should have involved them sooner. Talk to other women face to face who have had surgery, I think this would have helped me more than anything. Facing this without a partner is hard. Hang in there! Good luck. I'll be thinking of you.
