Choosing an option

Hi all,

Has anyone had a lumpectomy and chosen to not have radiation but chemo instead? Also has anyone chosen not to use Tamoxifen and used an alternative?

Too many choices! These decisions are not easy ones to make....

I would appreciate any thoughts.

Merry Xmas everyone

Libby :-)

  • Like you, I couldn't believe the decisions I had to make, lumpectomy or mastectomy? 12 wks or18wks of chemo? I thought I would just be told what to do, but these days they have realised it's our bodies and our lives so they give us choices when they can. The best advice is to get all the facts and statistics, sit down and decide what's best for you and your life. Above all , let your medical team guide you as they are the experts, their experience is vast. With my choices I tried to do everything I could so that down the track if a reoccurance takes place,  I wouldn't look back and say 'What if I had of taken those hormone tablets?' What if I had of had that chemo? Hope I've been of some help, all the best with whatever you decide. Merry Christmas to you,

    Hazel xx

    Hi Libby,

It sounds like you have some tough decisions ahead :-( Maybe some of the other women experiences will help you to form a list of questions you can ask your Dr.

I'm not sure if you received the My Journey Kit but there will be some information about treatments and also the Treatment section on our website may help you to make some decisions - http://www.bcna.org.au/new-diagnosis/treatment

  • Hi Libby I had lumpectomy, chemo, radio, and now tamoxifen...Doctors given me choices but also given me all the statistics and analysis to support to take the treatment program. To the surgery, the worst part has been taken, the rest of the treatments are for eliminating, if any; and avoid/minimise the chance of recurrence. You can say they are necessary, and they are not necessary. It always our choice at the end of the day. What's your findings from the pathology report, and any hints to the cause of the cancer? How's your support from the family and friends, how are you feeling. Take care and love yourself. Rosanna (hugging)
