Bras and Driving

Hi all,

I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy on Wednesday and am feeling fine with no pain. I have just been relaxing at home but am wondering about what bras I should start wearing. I am a 14E fitting and usually wear underwire bras. My lumpectomy was at about 8 o'clock on my left breast. Are sports bras usually suggested?

Also, how soon do most people start driving again? My car is a manual, so I would be using my left arm quite a bit.

Thanks for any advice,

Ann

  • Hi Ann

i found the BCNA bras from Best & Less the best as they are like sports bras with a removable cup. They pull over your head & are very comfortable.  They are about $12 each and come in many colours.  I have been wearing them since August 2014 and cannot give the up.  I had a lumpectomy & lymph node removal.  I also have had no problem driving as e have an automatic transmission.

    all the best Diana

  • Thanks Rowdy. I'll look into those bras. Looks like my husband keeps chauffeuring me around for a while, heh, heh.

  • Thanks Sharon, I tried to get in touch with a Breast Care nurse yesterday but must have missed her somehow. I'll try again on Monday.

  • Hi I wore those ahh bras and the belei bra ugly but the most comfortable. Target has a big range of post surgery bras at the moment. when I had my surgeries they didn't have much. Driving not sure we changed our car not long after first surgery beause we also had a manual Do what you feel comfortable but be careful with driving.

  • Hi Ann. When I had my lumpy I was unable to wear underwires for a while. I used the berley bra that opens front and back and supports really well. Ugly??? MMm, yes, but comfy wins. I am sure they come in e cups and are called post surgery bras.  Do you have a Breast care nurse? They can order you a my care kit with a bra in it from bcna.  There is also a recovery dvd too.

As for driving, it can depend and I would certainly speak with your Breast surgeon about it
