Advice for painful keloid scar
Hi All
I have a keloid scar that formed following three incisions to the same spot on my chest to insert, fix, and then remove my chemo port. I had the port removed January 2018 and the keloid developed slowly after that despite using silicon tape and bio oil. I also had radiation as par of my treatment.
It has been stable for a few months, but now once again, it is in an active growth period and is stinging, itchy and painful. Silicon tape isn't reducing or flattening the growth.
Just wondering has anyone sought treatment or surgery for a painful keloid? Has anyone had corticosteroid shots, had them frozen or used laser therapy and if so has it been successful? Any other advice would be appreciated.

- Perhaps a dermatologist referral might be an idea?
My scar is prominent also. Very wide and still red but it has flattened out. - @Nadi
Hope you're on the better side of it all and the keloid scar is fixed soon
Take care - My port scar remained really raised for about 6 months afterwards - it looked like the port was still in there. Surgeon advised massage with Bio-oil which I did. There's still a scar but much more normal looking now.
- My scar is visible but it is not "angry" & red like it was before I saw the plastic surgeon. It has not increased at all. Visiting a plastic surgeon is the way to go. Good luck.
- Hi @angg66 just wondering how your scar is and whether it has increased at all since your procedure with the plastic surgeon. Just wondering whether I should ask my GP for a plastic surgeon because it is still so painful.
- I saw a plastic surgeon for my keloid after I had my port removed. The keloid was raised, ugly & sore. He "shaved" the keloid off. I was awake when he did the procedure. Then I had to put a silicone bandage on it for some months. There is still a scar there but it is not ugly or raised anymore.
- my massage therapist has used laser on my scars where they were beginning to keloid so much better afterwards she also did a lot of massaging of the area.
- I know the ‘patchwork quilt’ feeling. I got 5 news scars from laproscopic surgery in Nov
- It has in the past. I had the port removed in July 2017 and the scar is prominent. It's settled a bit in the last few months, which coincides with some improvement in my physical well well being--reduction in foot and leg pain and nerve pain in my arm and chest. Perhaps it's related to some sort of general inflammatory response?
I've got a number of keloid scars but I don't remember any of the others being so irritating for so long. As you describe its itchy and scratchy and it pulls. I'm blaming the bloody dissolvable (not) stitches for this one. Some of the others were caused by injuries which were a bit messy. This one is a surgical wound and should have healed better. Never mind. I look like a patchwork quilt anyway. - Hey @Zoffiel. Has yours stopped growing and then started growing again?
