- PV123MemberI had weekly taxol infusions and had some side effects, but could complete the 12 cycles. I have not heard of Zometa so unable to advice, however the oncologist should clearly explain the reason for prescribing zometa. If you don’t have an appointment with the oncologist, you could email and ask the questions.
- AfraserMemberI too had side effects with Taxol but did finish all 12 doses (still have the funny feet to prove it!). But my oncologist never mentioned this medication when we talked through the options. Agree with @PV123, your oncologist should explain the reasons and provide you with written material on the treatment, its benefits and side effects, as should be the case with any medication or treatment.
- GlemmisMemberI had my second Zometa infusion about 6 weeks ago. I finished chemo in Feb 2017 & my oncologist suggested it to me last August to help with bone density. There is also some research to show it might prevent metastasis to bones so I agreed. Apparently I am having a course of 6 every six months. The infusion itself only takes about 20 mins & you can experience aches & pains the next day & tiredness. There can be other side affects but I didn’t have them. Your oncologist will explain the pros & cons but for me I thought the benefit is worthwhile as I don’t want to discontinue Letrozole if my bone health declines & the added benefit of preventing bone metastasis.
- AfraserMemberReading a bit, it may be that your other side effects are the consideration. It may also be useful to ask your oncologist for the pros and cons of Zometa or Prolia in your case. Best regards.
- Katy_SodapopMemberI have had 6 zometa infusions but I had it for my bone health, although it's been mentioned in helping reduce BC occurrence.
The first one wasn't very nice and it felt like I had the flu so I took more pre-meds for the second one otherwise they have been ok
