White Discharge after chemo and menopause

Hello lovely ladies.  I am nearly post 3 years since diagnosis and doing really well!  I just have a question and was wondering if anyone has had the same issue.  I had chemo was was set into premature menopause, I had two blood test saying I am in menopause(I am now 49) I had regular periods before I started chemo, however they stopped with chemo.  I have been on letrozole now for about 8 months after being on tamoxifen for a year with no periods.  In the past week I have noticed a white sticky to clear discharge (down there) almost like when I used to ovulate, and a twinge in the ovaries??  Is it possible to ovulate again???  I guess I was a little worried as this would mean estrogen in the body and I am hormone positive BC.  I did have a pap test about a month ago (no discharge then) and all was normal could it be possible my ovaries are turning back on?  Or is this discharge normal with letrozole????  Would love to hear any feedback as I wasn't sure what to do?  Hugs oxox

  • Just an update to the post I did earlier last week. I went to see my oncologist who ordered another blood test.  Well my estrogen levels were a lot higher....so guess what... after all this time the doctor believes my ovaries are 'waking up'.....and that I am after all NOT in menopause, I was in fact perimenopausal.  So I have been taken off the Letrozole and back on the tamoxifen for now.  It just goes to show at 5o years of age , chemo, and no periods for such a long time your body can get back to itself!  The oncologist said this is rare and that he has never seen this before, so to anyone who is not sure about a discharge(my was like when I used to ovulate, clear and sticky) you know your body and if you are uncertain about something.. go get it checked!!  If I didn't I would still be on Letrozole which only works for women who have gone through menopause. So lucky I did as tamoxifen works for me at the moment! :-)

  • Tou should have it checked out for sure... it could be just normal or could be hormones kicking in or could be bacterial or some.kind of trush maybe.

You never know but any out of the ordinary vaginal discharge is worth getting checked out...

  • Hey there.

To be honest i havent mentioned the discharge to my docs as it didnt occur to me that it was anything abnormal. Its the usual goey stuff in saying that there isnt too much of it though.  I will add it to my list of questions when i see the gp or oncologist next...not sure whether its something the surgeon specialises in.  Last time i discussed ovaries with my oncologist she told me my last scan showed no activity but she wasnt convinced i was menopausal yet.  I was on tamoxifen for a year and on arimidex since January.

Hope all continues to go well with you.

    Take care

  • Hello Maryrose, thank you for your reply.  I recently had a full gyno check up/ pelvic and ovary ultra sound, as I did in the past have a once of bleed, and that turned up all a ok. This was prior to discharge. If you don't mind me asking what have your doctors put the discharge down to? Is yours similar to ovulation discharge. Hope all goes well with your check up, Rgds :-)

  • Howdy i am similar to you 49 and no period for two years since chemo except i am on arimidex. I have had discharge the whole time but no periods. If you are worried get your doc to order a pelvic ultrasound to check what the ovaries are doing. Coincidentally I am having one tomorrow as part of my two year diagnosis checks.

    Take care.??
