What are the Arimidex side effects?

Hi Ladies, My onc is switching me from Tamoxifen to Arimidex. One possible side effect of this drug is hair loss. I've already experienced some thinning of my hair (top) & am most concerned that I may thin out even more. I would like to hear from anyone who is on Arimidex and has experienced hair loss. Furthermore, is hair loss permanent or will hair return after Arimidex treatment is completed. Would like to hear your experiences. Thanks

  • HI, I have been on Arimidex for three years, hot flushes, sore joints but now I am noticing my hair is thinning on top! Panicking! Does anyone know if it will grow back or is the damage permanent?

Comments from long term Arimidex users would be appreciated

    thanks Shuszie

  • I was on Arimidex for 10 years... My oncologist said that I should take it for the rest of my life, but after a long chat, because of the side effects,  I was taken off the drug.  I went through everything: hot flushes, numb fingers, lost of libido, less and thinner hair etc

I'm feeling better now however, my hair is very thin and nothing like before, but I'm alive!

Happy and healthy holidays for all of you......

  • I was on Arimidex for 6 months and had hot flushes, extremee bone pain and Numb arms. My oc eventlually took me off it and has put me on Tamoxifin, all I get on this is hot flushes. She did tell me that I will eventually need to go on a Arimitose drug but they will find something over than Arimidex. As I am told I'll be on these for 10 years I do not want all the side effects.

  • Many thanks for your replies. I've gotten in touch with breast care nurses here for more information about side effects. They will get back to me after checking through literature as well as speaking with their colleagues. Until then, I'll stay on Tamoxifen.

  • I have been on arimidex for one week and already my arthritic finger joints and feet are playing up. Also having trouble sleeping. I did read in the side effects about hair thinning. Something I am not looking forward to.

  • I have been on Arimidex for 3 months, the only side effect I have noticed so far has been that my hot flushes are more intense. I was very moody for the first month on the tablets but that has eased now. My hair is growing back from chemo and it's growing at a reasonable rate. I was apprehensive about Arimidex, after reading the side effects information sheet, but the good outweighs the bad. The oncologist said that maybe I could get one side effect, all side effects or none, it's a wait and see scenario. So far, so good. Everybody is so different and I know some ladies on this site had some bad side effects, so I guess the oncologist was right. There are also long term side effects but I have put that in my back pocket for the moment. Early days for me yet but I hope I have been of some help, take care,
