Taxotere

Good Evening Lovely Ladies, last week I had my first chemo session with Taxotere. I felt I had been managing not too badly. I have noticed that I have sore ears, sorer right side of my tongue, a very white tongue, food feels like I am swallowing a bunch of knives and generally feeling tired tonight. Is this normal? I have been using a soft toothbrush with biotene toothpaste for dry mouth. Been ok up until now. Would love to receive any feedback or advice from anyone has experienced these side affects and what you have done to manage these. Thanks Jackie
  • I'm glad you got something for your throat, the chemo does lessen our ability to fight infection. Stay strong, things will get better, keep in touch,

  • I am so pleased that you went to the GP, when you are going through chemo it doesn't take much for something to flare up.

Drink, drink, drink, rinse, rinse, rinse, rest, rest, rest, thats the message.

    Sending you hugs

  • When I was on docetaxol  I had terrible mouth problems. The ladies are right about Biotene as a mouthwash, I developed oral thrush which was dreadful. As hard as I tried, after every dose of Docetaxol the thrush would come back. The first sign was the white tongue. My throat got very sore (razor blades) and that turned out to be a throat infection. I'm sorry if I am sounding negative but at the time I thought it was just side effects, by the time I got it checked out I had to be admitted to hospital. Keep being proactive and I hope it eases up for you soon, big hugs to you,

  • I swore by NZ Manuka honey, sipped from a spoon to keep my mouth and throat healthy. You need the strongest one you can find. As Robyn says, rest is so important. Just take it easy. It will pass Love Julie
  • I had docetaxel, and these side effects are pretty normal. From about day 6 onwards,my side effects started.Usually by about day 10, they start to settle.I had a sore throat, and I also used biotene toothpaste, but the thing that I found the best was the Biotene mouthwash.I used it EVERY time after I ate something, even if it was a couple of bites. The tiredness is something that you have to go with. When you are tired just rest, and do what you can when the tiredness passes.Try to get in a walk each day, because it really does help to alleviate the fatigue.Keep an eye on your temp, and if it goes up,then get yourself checked out,but I feel that what you are describing is a common side effect of chemo.Stay in touch.xoxRobyn
