Tamoxifen and liver problems
I have been on Tamoxifen for 2 years now after having a painful time on Arimedex for a couple of months. I am also taking Effexor to stop me drowning in night sweats. Was having weird stomach pains so was sent for a scan on my liver. Turns out it has enlarged quite a bit and my GP is pretty sure it's the Tamoxifen which is causing it. I don't see my medical oncologist for a few months yet. I want to stop the meds, but my husband is not happy about that. Has anyone else had liver issues? Maybe there is a thread somewhere else on here which deals with this issue. I haven't been on line since the new website. Thanking everyone in advance !

- TonyaMMemberHi San-Dee, After 4yrs on Tamoxifen,my liver enzymes were elevated and an ultrasound showed a fatty liver. I didn’t have one before. I agree with the girls above, see your oncologist sooner Tamoxifen may cause liver damage and your liver is so important.Sign in to react to this post

- ZoffielMemberMake an appointment and go and see your onc, they need to know about what is happening. You won't be the first person who's had this reaction and it needs to be carefully managed. Please don't go down the naturopathic route until you've had a discussion with the person who prescribed the drug. MxxSign in to react to this post
- San-DeeMemberThanks Louise, I didn't know Tamoxifen could do it either, but when I checked out liver problems on line, Tamoxifen is one of the listed drugs known to cause issues. No one mentioned this when it was prescribed for me !! I have been thinking about seeing a naturopath, so many thanks for your input. I'll have to start asking around for recommendations. Take care of yourself. Hugs San-DeeSign in to react to this post
- Louise_JMemberHi @San-Dee, yes I have enlarged liver from chemo with the stomach pains ( they have gone now) and have been drinking green juices, beet and carrot juices etc, taking a liver tonic ( check with a naturopath for suitable one) amongst other healthy alternatives to counteract it. It’s helped quite a bit. Didn’t know tamoxifen could do this as well and that is coming up soon 😬. Hope this helps you and you feel better soon! Louise xxSign in to react to this post
