Starting Paclitaxel...

Hi Everyone,
Well I have now completed the first 4 rounds of Chemo, in two weeks time I start the 12 rounds of weekly, (Paclitaxel) and I am shit scared as I have only come to terms with the side effects of the first lot, is anyone able to shed some light on this round of chemo...so far the only thing that really gets to me is feeling lethargic, hate not having any energy to even go to the loo... Only really good thing is to me it means only 12 more weeks of treatment.....fingers crossed anyway.... <3 :)
Thanks
Cheers
Wendy

  • Thank you all so much for the feed back... i know one thing I am looking forward to it not having to take the Steroid anymore, I have put on just over a kg each 3 weeks, so am hoping now by the end of the 12 weeks I will of lost it all again, and maybe even more lol...
  • Taxol was an absolute breeze for me compared to AC. I ended up with a little bit of neuropathy in my feet (mainly numbness) towards the end but that was about it. I hope it’s as easy for you.
  • Hi @Schwen

Congrats on getting the first lot out of the way.  I also found this one heaps easier than the AC.

No fatigue, drove myself there and back for treatment, worked, did all my usual stuff.  I had mild tingling in toes but only for about 24hrs after it..
I did have a weird skin rash, (my skin is a bit weird and sensitive at the best of times) so had to stay on prednisone the whole way through.  This doesn't appear to be a normal side effect though.

It made me very sensitive to the sun.  Apart from that, no issues.

    All the best

  • I agree with sister and afraser. The cumulative thing is the most annoying as you think you are done and dusted then along comes something else. I got most of the side effects, not to the extreme but niggly all the same. Keep your onco nurses informed as they seem to have a better idea than even the Onco. The neuropathy is what the onco really keeps an eye on. A lot of people get diarreah (can't spell) but I missed that altogether. Keep on here with updates and usually someone can help. I am on week seven of taxol and am quite lethargic but not as bad as on AC
  • Mostly .I found it much easier than AC. I did find it cumulative, and you don't get the same break, so towards the end I struggled with fatigue.  And the onc was monitoring the peripheral neuropathy.
  • I didn't have any lethargy with Taxol but then again I didn't have it with A/C either. Mostly Taxol is hard on soft tissue so can affect your nose (sniffly, occasionally bloody), eyes (tired, occasionally a little blurry) or mouth (I lost most of my taste buds). All of these cleared up as soon as finished. Peripheral neuropathy (loss of feeling, usually fingers and toes) can occur. It may just be pins and needles type tingling, but can be painful (yep, numbness and pain together) and can be serious so ask for help if it starts - some treatments can minimise impact. Worst case you may need to stop part way through, but most manage through OK and the reaction subsides after Taxol is finished. Best wishes, as you say only 12 to go, just count them down!!
